Yeah we are loaded so why not let potential walk? Rick Smith appreciates your talent evaluation skills.
That is still not several. Tuggle plays the other ILB position. Even with that, two is not a lot. Cushing has had some bad moments but I think we are exaggerating his play this past season. Maybe it's because of his salary or because of what we've come to expect from the position but he is far from the worst starting MILB in the league.
Regardless of where Cushing ranks in the highest paid category (ranked 7th for inside linebackers)...it matters more how much dead money we face by letting him go. Based on my understanding of his contract, it's just not worth letting him go even if he's a two down player. Even if we let him go after the 2015 season, it looks like it would be less than a 2 million dollar savings. I will believe that article about Cushings contract if he's let go this summer, but based on the fact that he was given a 9 million dollar bonus and 21 million in guarantees, I just dont see how the Texans can get out of that contract without significant dead money on the books. And like Ive mentioned, I really hope Im wrong about this and that the Texans can truly cut ties this summer without much dead money to worry about. I havent heard one person outside that article mention Cushing as a possible cap casualty though.
wow la canfora, spotrac, and over the cap all report different details. let's hope la canfora is right. just another miserable contract authored by rick the rat.
Yeah, that's my go to source...them and spotrac give a totally different image than what La Canfora wrote about.
Charlie Campbell @DraftCampbell I have Dorial Green-Beckham going on day two. Sources tell me Texans & Eagles have already ruled him out http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2015charlie_2.php
$1MM in savings as a post-June 1st cut seems to be the prevailing narrative. is that money better spent in the draft? the other thing worth consideration: the original La Canfora blurb mentions that Cushing's option bonus is not guaranteed. However if that option isn't exercised (i.e., Cut) while he is injured, his deal becomes guaranteed for $6 million in the next season... so if you carry him on next seasons roster you are basically risking 2 years worth of salary if he were to get injured...
When teams are finished poaching the brains that find us talent despite Rick Smith folks will truly see how garbage he is. One down
to those who say our front office sucks these are some players that have played STATISTICALLY better not just for our team but compared to other prospects in the entire League that went higher in their draft class.. NEWTON, Brooks - a line that is top sin the league in rushing yards and sacks allowed) Crick- 56 combined tackles, 4sacks and 6 watted passes, for a RE in the nutty professor's system, that is beyond a dream. very comparable to TY Warren from the patriots sb teams. Bouye- 3ints, 1 Ff and one recovery, no other CB from 2013 chosen in rounds 2-7 around the LEAGUE had a better season. redskins amerson and jacksonville's Gratz came close but still not better and they were 2nd rounders. Merciless-coming into his own. improved on run defense. stats don't show how he pressured when he played. gave mayock a hard ons. hopkins- no need to mention this guy. lol cordarrelle patterson thread. swearinger- many like to dog on him, even me, but he seemed to start to be more disciplined after the benching. romeo spoke to this. and his stats were on par with the best safety from that class. this whole we can't acquire players so just give up on the offseason myth has got to stop. it's tragic that cushing suffered a second injury eerily similar to the on in the NYjets game on monday night football. but he had returned to holy phenom status, just go back an recollect memory from that san diego 2013 game thread after cushing takes an int to the house. how do you predict a second injury on a cut block yet again? our acquisition of players is great so I don't worry about the other positions. we just have to pray that we luck into stability at quarterback. i have faith we will.
Could not agree less with this statement. I don't think anyone just gives up on the offseason, it's actually sort of an optimistic time because you hope that your team can take the required steps to improve the following year(unless cap reality or potential cuts set in). I think some of the problems that people have with this front office are that for one, we already know about former Texans free agents that have had success in different environments, but what's even more baffling is how bad we have been at finding quality players past the first round. Some noticeably bad blunders from the front office: Signing Ed Reed Releasing Owen Daniels for Garrett Graham Releasing Connor Barwin Releasing Demeco Ryans Signing Cush to a mega-deal (ok, in hindsight they probably didn't expect him to preform so awful, but they still paid him a lot of money) Getting little to no impact from the 2013 draft Class outside of obviously Hopkins. Swearinger is still a question mark. Getting little to no impact from the 2014 draft Class outside of Alfred Blue. Removing Khalil Mack from #1 Draft Pick Consideration. Not Signing Peyton Manning because we felt we had our QB in Matt Schaub(...) Etc. You get the gist. A few of these are debatable, but bottom line, this is a team with holes at many positions. It's obviously a positive that some people who had been previously written off stepped up this year, but it still doesn't make up for the fact that this team has holes at several critical positions. If this team is going to get serious about being a potential contender in the playoffs, It's going to take more than just addressing the QB position (albeit an important one) for us to make that next transition. We have problems all around the board and that's why we could literally swing anywhere at our pick. If Rick Smith and company are here for the draft, I hope for once he can find some quality talent past the first. But I really don't think he can get the job done, some I hope we can find another quality GM who can.
If I'm not mistaken _ I think I remember hearing Lance Z say what la canfora reported about his contract... I'm not sure though. But if you're right about Cushing never returning to the form he was _ and if the Texans don't keep AJ _ and if there are not any big time free agents that they are willing to spend big money on this year _ I would cut him and eat that dead money this year so they will have the cap space next year. If that's true ----> Damn...!!!!
