I don't see anything good coming from talking to the parents. Nothing will change, so why do it.

First, I don't really believe it's necessarily their parenting that's the problem; kids are people, and some people are just assholes. And, it's much more complicated than just people who are good or bad at being parents. There's that, and then there's the personality of the kids, and then there is the dynamic between the personality of the parents and the kids.

But that doesn't even matter here. Whether they are good or bad at parenting, they aren't suddenly going to become better just because someone told them to shape up.

And finally, it could be -- possibly, maybe, because I don't know the people involved -- that the kid's not an ******* at all, but that you're the problem. Maybe you don't have reasonable expectations on how kids should behave.

Talk to your child about the other child's behavior. If your kid is smart and wise he will see the err of the other boy's ways and deal with it. This is coming from a non parent.

Call him a jackass on his Facebook wall. But with a smiley face at the end.

    Bad advice.

Be prepared to lose a friend there are varying ways to raise a child they have chosen to allow bratty behavior just let the kid know it is not acceptable at your house.

As it takes a village the child will learn to know his behavior has to moderate outside of his home.

Not "scared" Swoly... (why would I be scared?)

Just being realistic. It's not going to do any good, so why bother?

When I was young, my best friend's dad "grounded" me from their house for a week because I didn't clean up after myself one time. It totally made an impact on me... never happened again.

He's messing with your head. You can't sleep at night and post about it on the internet. Like a woman keeping a nice guy in check at her every whim, he owns you.

These are the best pieces of advice in this thread, try both together.

    And bully him on Facebook.

I think this might be a good way to approach it. Make sure you do it only when he does something egregious enough so you won't look like you're overreacting. He might realize and change on his own, despite his parent's laxness.

you are letting a 9 year old dominate your thoughts and emotions

but seriously, I don't see a point in talking to the parents about how to raise their kid, nothing will change and they will definitely get defensive about it.

That's the best bet if you want to get the parents involved. Wait til it's something drastic and then you can have the convo.

Suck it up and strongly enforce house rules. Get ready to talk to parents and possibly damage a friendship. It is what it is man and life goes on. He's definitely in your head and it's killing your vibe.
