So....here's my question if you're going to go there. If Morey is willing to pop the Pels pick to OKC for RJackson, then ....... why not go after Rubio? We need $7.79 million of outgoing salary to trade for Rubio and Hummel. So why not put together a trade using Kostas, Canaan, Capela, Jones, and the Pels pick for Rubio/Hummel?? Rubio is the superior playermaker and defender and Jackson is not a plus shooter any more than Rubio but he takes more shots than Rubio does. And Rubio is already locked up for the next 4 years at a decent salary.
In the words of Rick Pitino...... Rick Rubio aint walking through that door. What could possible go wrong with..... Howard, DMO, Ariza, Harden and Rubio? Who takes any 3's? Rubio is not a good fit, he also does not address the spacing issues.
Not very. Wouldn't it be totally idiotic to trade for Rubio to play off the ball with Harden? Rubio facilitates. And then he facilitates. Oh,.... and after that.....he facilitates. You trade for Rubio to get Harden (one of this team's best spot-up shooters) off the ball more often with a highly capable playmaker creating wide open looks for Harden (and Terry and Ariza and Dwight and Beverley and DMo and Brewer). We've got to make the game easier for Harden or else he's going to be done when he's 29. And then when you rest Rubio you let Harden run rough shod over the opponents backups. And then when you rest Harden you have Rubio running the show with Terry on the wing. See?
You're simply being closed-minded on how he would space the floor. Rubio at the top, Harden on one wing, Ariza on the other, pick and roll with the bigs. Very simple. Great spacing. Plenty of possessions for Harden to still do his thing against lesser defenders and go crazy running the show by himself for the 18 minutes or so Rubio sits. You move Terry off the ball. You move Brewer off the ball and let him streak in transition. And another thing....Rubio ain't walking through that door??? Don't count your chickens just yet. It's still a possibility. I'm not saying it's going to happen...yet. I'm telling you it's one of the stronger possibilities.
Personally I'd much rather go with Jackson over Rubio. Think he could improve the first or second unit. Plus isn't Rubio hurt right now anyway? Also that you would hopefully not have to give up as much for Jackson as you would for Rubio. Just have to gamble in the offseason that he would resign which I think he would personally
Probably could get Jackson to re-sign. But most likely at a larger number than Rubio. And he's simply not as good as Rubio. Yes, Rubio is hurt right now. Yes, they are taking a lot of time bringing him back from a twisted ankle. You give up more for the better player. Rubio is clearly a better player than Jackson at this respective stage of each of their careers.
You stick to your schtick and you do it well. I must give you that. But let me help on the above: Morey and I do not want.
Actually he doesn't. Rubio barely ever shoots the basketball. He is so good at creating looks for others he barely ever shoots the basketball and most of those situations are a few balled up possessions per game that he has to shoot as a bailout. Rubio's shooting is not a hinderance to the offense he creates when he's on the ball. His shooting problems are way overblown. Just like Rondo's shooting problems are overblown. Your thought process revolves solely around Harden handling and creating and having shooters around him. We've already got a decent shooting PG in Bev. (And Canaan is on the bench and is even a better shooter than Bev.). We don't need another shooting PG. We need a facilitating player that is good enough to move Harden off the ball for 15-20 possessions a game. It would be great if Rubio were a great shooter. But it's not what is killing this team. What is killing us is two of our best spot-up shooters are being used to create offense. One of them (Harden) is an above average playmaker but all the playmaking takes his legs and turns his shooting percentages down. And the other guy is old and can barely make plays that result in contested looks and takes him out of the role that has made him a multi-millionaire in the NBA, spotting up in the corner. We need a playmaker so we can get the best shooters on our team great looks instead of wearing them out by having them create shots for guys that can't shoot.
Not sure if im remembering right but isnt Rubio on pace to be one of the worst shooting gaurds in history? If so how is his bad shooting overblown?
Even though Jackson was hurt this season too I think he has the more durable body then Rubio. And if I am going to keep one over a couple years Jackson looks like he could be the better all around player then Rubio in the long run. Even if he signs at a larger number then Rubio currently has, if you can keep most of the team as currently constructed it doesn't matter. I'm honestly haven't seen Rubio play much, but from what I know he's a good passer, can't shoot, can't play defense. Maybe you can give me the merits that Rubio has over Jackson to convince me.
Isn't that the fear? That he's only effective when on the ball? So can he not play with Harden at all? The benefit of the Beverly type is that he does exactly what is needed. He defers to Harden and hits his open 3s. He is also a much better finisher than Rubio. I would love the creative ability of Rubio, but we are as 3pt shooting team, and a layup team....two things Rubio is terrible at. He might not shoot much now, but that doesn't mean his shot ain't broke. That ish is broke. You can't claim he doesn't shoot much, so it's not really that broke....that ish is broke, and it ain't getting any better.
-RJackson is going to be a restricted free agent in a highly saturated market for PG's with few buyers (good time to get a bargain rate. -RJax's scoring and overall production have increase since his rookie year (Rubio has been in slight decline since coming in the NBA from a scoring perspective). -RJax is a better positional defender, and much stronger to defend bigger guards. He has good height and length for a PG. Rubio does as well, but is slighter in build, and often gambles to get his steals (see Pat Beverley's best offensive games last season vs Rubio). Do the Rockets need another gambler playing passing lanes or do they need someone who is going to stay solid more often? -RJax has stayed healthy the majority of his career & is healthy now. Rubio is out indefinitely now, and has only had one full healthy season in the NBA. ....... Should I keep going or do we still need to keep debating who to go after vs. Rubio & RJackson???
OKC has already taken it in the a$$ for the Harden trade. I don't see any way OKC does an other trade with Houston for Reggie Jackson. Knicks seem like a prime team flush with money that would be willing to overpay for Jackson as an RFA.
Also I doubt that OKC would trade RJackson just for cap relief. I have full confidence that they will try and move a player to get under the lux tax, but doubt that a "salary dump" for RJax is their approach when they have the ability to win it all this year. If the Rockets are going to deal for Jackson, I would bet that your probably going to have to a deal like- RJax & Perkins for a combo of Rox useful mid level players (Papa or Brewer & Shved) and add a future pick or two. Either way, your probably going to have to make it much more worth OKC's while by giving them actual players, and more realistic salary relief.
OKC will get what they can out of Jackson for a playoff run this year before letting him go to a competitor.
Is this Perkins final year of his contract? Cuz I'd do Papa & Shved plus picks in a heart beat for RJax and Perk if that was the case.
