I don't think Waiters was the 'answer', but I would have loved trading for Schumpert. Better than Corey Brewer, IMO, and younger.

Sounds to me as if OKC is groping. It seems to me, with last night as a backdrop, Thunder need to do some significant shaking-up. If Lopez-Perk is a framework of a deal then both teams need to get to the point of a trade-call.

I guess if you look at it from a talent perspective, yes they added Waiters (a legit talent but highly troubled player) for picks. Yes they POTENTIALLY got more talent in the short term without giving up real current players. However the impact he has had on the court in his first couple seasons shows that OKC might be playing with fire a bit. This isn't a player you can anticipate not throwing a monkey wrench in the tires. I love it when teams have this saying when they look to acquire a player of "well... if we just had him in our system and our culture." The Spurs can maybe say that. Miami the past couple years might be able to say that. The OKC Thunder are not in that same vein. If they think they aren't susceptible to locker room & on the court chemistry issues than they are walking a slippery slope. Also the whole notion of "we wont have room for a 1st round draft pick rookie next year" is hogwash. That's complete crap. You have 10 players definitely coming back next year, and even if you resign Perkin, Collison, and RJax, you still have room to add another player along with a rookie. The day a GM comes to tell me that we have too many players, and can't add first round talent to our roster is the day I fire that GM.
Disagree. Shumpert and Smith are better shooters than Waiters. Shumpert is a better defender than Waiters. They improved their guard rotation, and got a back a 1st as well. That said, they still haven't fixed the primary issue on their team......post defense. Sounds like their plan is to use the Memphis and OKC picks to get Mozgov. If they actually get him, Waiters for Mozgov/Shumpert/Smith doesn't look too bad.
Consider that when they say they don't have room it really means they don't have room to pay a first round draft pick his guaranteed salary. The Suns did this for a few years in a row during Steve Nash's peak. They sold their draft picks because they didn't want to have to pay a 1st round pick his money when he wasn't going to crack their rotation.
Its also quite interesting that the Thunder are currently over the luxury tax. Is anyone going to be that surprised when they dump salary at the deadline, or move RJax for a future pick? As much shame as the Sixers get for tanking, I think the Thunder deserve just as much for being blatantly cheap. If you can't afford it, than sell the team to someone who can pay. That being said, their cheapness landed the Rockets James Harden so .... may they forever stay cheap.
