Honestly, I really don't think there is anything wrong with Ariza's shot. The problem is he is taking difficult shots that he really isn't comfirtable taking. For example, he needs to stop taking those pull up 3's in transition. It's basically a turnover.
He shoots too damned much, he needs to stick to set shots only....at the 3pt line, and finishes on the break, anything else he sucks at. DD
Hey, if Ariza can lock down on defense and get 2-6 steals a game he doesn't need to score. Kinda like a Shane Battier role. Only shoot when it's the last resort until he gets his legs back from playing sooo many minutes. Seems like his legs are shot right now. Hopefully CB can reduce his minutes now that we have him coming off the bench.
He is never on balance for his shots anymore and is rushing them. If he keeps shooting like this all year he will end the season at like 20%, I bet eventually he will get hot again, or at least shoot average for a stretch.
So many holes on this roster. It's going to make things easy on defenses in the playoffs if players like Ariza and Brewer struggle to hit open shots.
You can't ask him to shoot less because he is left open. It's like Rafer Alston. He was wide open and he had to take those shots. He just couldn't hit them. (IIRC, one of the major factors we won 22 straight game was that Rafer was hitting his shots way above his average during that stretch.) The only shots Ariza shouldn't take is those pull up transition shots. He thinks he's Jon Barry or something. With Ariza, you just have to live with his shot if you want his other positive contribution, because the opponent is going to sag off of him.
Fair enough, no creating off the dribble, no shooting 3pters on the break - play defense - and we are good. Honestly, I know his D is elite, but his O almost makes up for it.... DD
Nah we need him starting besides Harden. His wing defense is a major threat and I believe is why the Rockets are in the top 10 in defense. Any 3s he makes, they're the cherry on top.
it sucks that he can't hit the barn but i'm delusionaly optimistic that by the playoffs he will be at least average from the 3.
Yes, but we are below average on offense, most championship caliber teams are in the top ten in both. I think you can have one offensive liability starting, but not two. DD
I know his defense is good, but it's a little sad how Trevor is on pace for the worst 3-point shooting season anyone has ever had. 7.5 attempts per game for 31%? Jesus
He is struggling but he makes the shot when it counts. Makes sense because that's what he does during the playoffs. Semi-related but Parsons always shrinks in the playoffs 3pt%.
It's an issue. Once he recuperates from the heavy minutes since the beginning of the year, I expect the percentage to go up. When you're tired, shoot-around is probably a chore...he'll sharpen up once he's fresh.
3PT% by year for Ariza: .231 .200 .000 .278 .319 .334 .303 .333 .364 .407 .313 He's steadily gotten better at the shot throughout his career, so I am so miffed that his percentage is the lowest it's been in five years. Hell, at this point I'd take his percentage of his first tour through Houston.
need to shoot some mid range or take the rock to the hole sometime to mix it up, He's just too predictable camping out at the 3's... i'd think 80% of his shots are jacking up 3's.
I do think less minutes makes sense, but I am not sure it will improve his 3 point shooting. He's not barely missing, he is missing badly. And he hasnt been playing heavy minutes since we signed Brewer
