Is Dwight Howard a good leader?

ost of us probably have run of the mill jobs in which we are leaders in some capacity. I certainly do. I have always thought the keys to being a good leader were communication skill, the ability to bring people together to work for a cause, listening and being accountable to yourself and then holding others accountable.

I am seriously concerned with the ability of Howard to lead our team. I attended the game last night and I was instantly worried during pre-game. The "warm up" routine from Howard consisted of 40 foot three pointers and sitting and talking to JSmoove. During half time (when we were getting raped) he spent most of the time talking to Eric Gordon. Not practicing a few freethrows or trying to set a tone.

His body language the majority of the season has been terrible. He doesn't seem to include himself in the list of persons that has to play better.

His defense last night was terrible. He seemingly refuses to set screens and run the pick and roll. You never see him over on the sideline talking to the guys or trying to keep them positive. Note that both Bev and Harden seem to do this well.

I just doubt this guy at this point. He wants to play like Hakeem but he is inefficient and a walking turnover. If he is hurt, he should sit. Obviously it sucks when Ariza and Bev brick it up but that really is a small issue compared to the bigger one. Our highest paid player is not a leader.

As much as I hate these types of threads, I am starting to come to the dark side. Just in my incredibly uneducated opinion, but ever since he came back into the lineup, something has been off. Chemistry, effort on D, pride, offensive movement etc. all gone since he has returned the line up. I love the big man, but something is not right with him and the team right now.

I thought he would play hard. That's part of being a leader. Leading by example.

No, it's hard for leadership to come from the post position. Defensively it can happen but offensively they don't control anything.

I don't really feel he whines too much. It's reasonable he complains after some of the fouls that are called on him, but his effort is somewhat in question to me. If there is a loose ball on the floor he does not go for it and that irritates me. I don't need him diving for it but at least bend down...jeez

Howard better get his act together. If he is not truly healthy, he should sit. If it is a motivational issue, this will affect his next contract.

Dwight should lead by example. Problem is he is a poor example. So when he speaks it just makes him sound even more like he's full of it.

I wish he would take things more seriously at times. I get it that he's a free spirit and would prefer to live care free, but there are times that you have to lock in and fight back. Always smiling. Always joking. Im sure an awesome guy to hang out with, but not so sure its a guy who I would be willing to follow into 'war'

I am starting to think he is beginning to check out or quit on his team. He may be wanting out of houston already but is afraid of what that will do to his already scarred rep.

Do not pay attention to Dwight's words. Look at his actions. From the way he has conducted himself from Orlando to LA to now in Houston, can you say he's a leader? He never takes responsibility and he's always pouting and complaining...especially on the court. A leader is someone who's actions speak louder than words. He mopes around a lot. He's good at garnering self pity to the media. He has an occasional good game here and there to get back on good graces but he can't sustain his excellence (supposedly from his Leastern Conference days). Dude is overrated. And brittle

He's not a quitter. He just doesn't want responsibility. He talks a big game but look closely at how he's played. Not a reliable player at all. If he can't be reliable how can he lead?

I'm still disgusted about that Asik drive and dunk. What a disgraceful effort by the so called best center in the league."

I'm not concerned about Dwight Howards ability to lead. I am concerned about his ability to play/be a 2nd star.
