McHale really has no say on the benching of this scrub?

You know I doubt any other team guaranteed that he would start, good well managed teams tell them....you might start, but you have to earn it, you will get a chance to earn it - but no guarantees.

This was a weak management move, if true.

A lot of people were under the impression that McHale holds complete accountability for starting Smith. Sounds like it has more to do with Morey than McHale.

To be fair, there's no way he'd start over Duncan, Nowitzki, Griffin or Randolph (the other teams interested in him).

Obviously the signing is looking like a huge mistake now though.

We have to remember this was a low risk move.

He should be cut very soon, or else there's a huge risk.

Not really. They had to guarantee he would start to get him. Now since it's not working out you just cut him after a few more games. No big deal.

You don't guarantee a player that was just cut because he was a cancer in the clubhouse anything.

You are GIVING them a chance - and the most money that any NBA team could give.

Morey is not a coach. Sure he does not want his signing to look bad but it is a fked up situation with Morey adamant wanting that '3rd star'

    Very stubborn plan

We should start him, take a timeout, and bench him. Every single game until he earns the starting spot.

Guaranteeing him a spot in the starting lineup every game until the end of the year is a low risk move?????

Too bad they won't cut him or bury him on the bench.

I think they might once Tjones is healthy.

One thing about Morey I have noticed, is that he generally cleans up his mistakes pretty quickly.

Remember Ariza the first time around..one year of suckatitude and then gone.
