This reminds me a lot of that loss at Chicago last season where the team similarly just didn't show up from the opening tip. The scary thing is they never really bounced back from that embarrassment the rest of the year. They did beat the scrub teams on the schedule, but aside from that impressive win at home against OKC when they were shorthanded, they left their best basketball behind them back around the All-Star Break.

I'm not sure Asik wouldn't smoke Dwight's butt the way he is playing right now.

When you're Popovich, you can get away with smartass responses like that. But Bev has been playing like garbage lately and he needs to hold himself accountable.

If we make the playoffs without losing significant players due to injury, I think we'll be ok, depending on who we see in the 1st round. I hope it's SAS, but I would take my chances with Memphis too.

Pretty much. Our success will always rise and fall based on whether guys are hot from 3 -- and if more than one person slumps at the same time, we're in big trouble. As someone pointed out in another thread, to say that our offense is predicated on 3-pointers and layups, we aren't very good at either one of those things. The personnel doesn't match the philosophy at all.

LOL, if we get SAS first round... don't even bother watching. Those guys bring it come playoff time, reg season doesn't mean ****, just ask the Rockets from last year... I wish I could say the same about our team. Hell after we stopped doing anything in the playoffs (97), SAS have been pretty damn consistent in the playoffs.

Also regarding that Chicago embarrassment last season, the Rockets could take comfort in the fact that they were still 44-21 and had already clinched the season series against Portland a few nights earlier. So not only were they all but guaranteed a playoff spot, but home court was likely as well(although they did sweat it out til the last days of the regular season).

Not the case right now. 22-10 doesn't mean squat in a Western Conference this loaded. The Suns, Pelicans, and Thunder are playing pretty well right now and are all competing for one playoff spot. Don't think for one second the Rockets can't find themselves on the outside looking in by the All-Star Break if they don't get their collective sh-t together.

Dwight has wanted to play with Smith for a very, very long time. Since they were playing together in AAU. However, I'm starting to get the feeling that now that's it's happened, Dwight is dismayed. Why? Smith has disrupted team chemistry. Any deal for a guy who's supposed to have an impact, and who causes one popular young player to be cut, and one very effective one to sit more than he was when we were winning, with a "trickle down" effect, as well, has an impact on team chemistry. Doesn't mean it was wrong to get Smith necessarily, but it's disruptive. It has to be. Has this freaked out Dwight? Perhaps Smith isn't playing like Dwight expected him to play. Does he see getting Smith as a mistake now? A mistake he may have played a role in? Just speculating. I'd rather Smith was a problem, than Howard having a problem with his body.

How can you be sure of anything from a team that has kept Mchale so long. The one instance where firing a coach before his contract end would be great and the Rockets choose to go against the grain.
