I was a proponent of Smith, but it hasn't worked out. We should cut him now. Papa and Cannan need to be back in the lineup. We simply cannot have zero shot creators on the floor, it just doesn't work.

That would work much better. If Ariza is so tired he can't shoot anymore let him use his defense with the bench while he recovers.

I'm actually ok with that. It would F up the Rockets 2016 plans(assuming they have any that don't involve the pipe dream of luring Durant here). But it would also signal that Dwight himself knows his value on the open market is sh-t and thus prevent Les from handing a 9 figure extension to the dude.

Maybe Les said something horrid or was found out something about him?

I just don't buy that, DD. Howard was beasting against Portland last year during the playoffs. The guy cares. He has heart. He wants to win, and wants to win a championship. Badly. Like I said, I'm puzzled by what's going on. I just hope it isn't physical. All that other stuff will be fixed eventually, either by newly developed chemistry, or by Morey, who will make a move by the deadline if this is any sort of trend, and I don't think it is. What I am wondering about is the coincidence with Smith's arrival.

McHale looks like he could kill someone right now.

Exactly right. Let the Mavs ruin their team from within. Except at this stage. I doubt there would be too many suitors for Smith.

It's not about what some of us posters say about DH12 and the rest of the starters. Check out what McHale and Calvin and others say about the effort. It is one thing to have a bad night ...it's quite another to be lamenting lack of effort and mchale has to be beside himself to watch highly paid supposed PROFESSIONALS play with a lack of pride and effort.

Papa has no confidence. He still hasn't figured out how to shoot an NBA 3 and it looks like the season is wearing on him. Canaan could probably play backup pg at times until he gets back in the groove.

I think it is physical. I think if he played all-out every possession every night he'd hurt himself. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Thing is though he moves the ball.

That is unselfish, if a guy gives you a good pass for a easy bucket it makes you want to return the favor.

If a guy dribbles around and takes a selfish shot it makes you think "F this guy, I'll get mine..."

He doesn't shoot it well but he does other things well.

I haven't given up on him. But I am concerned. He's not having a good season. In fact, since the first couple weeks, I'd argue he's had a pretty bad season(by his standards). The Rockets have invested a ton of money in him and are essentially building the team around Howard and Harden. They're prepared to hand him a max extension in a year and a half that would tie this franchise's fortunes to him for the rest of the decade.

So no, we shouldn't write off Dwight as a player. But we do need to take a good look at his dropoff in production as well as how lackadaisical he seems to be playing and ask ourselves if we're better off with him or without him post-2016 should this trend continue.

If he is getting smoked by Asik from the three point line he is doing a lot more than not giving it 100 percent

There are so many issues with the team right now that everyone can clearly see so I won't waste time going into them in detail, so I'll just say two quick things:

    1) Hopefully Jones gets back soon, we are desperate for offense and

    2) If Smith doesn't get it together the next 3-5 games, not only should he be benched, he should be cut as well. He's playing far worse than he ever did in Detroit, and that's saying a lot.

    Very disappointing.

there is really something bothersome about that happening. it has to be health related.
