So last week I got my Chromecast and since I subscribe to NFL mobile I was casting Redzone to my big screen. It was heavenly football bliss. Now NFL mobile has been patched to ban screencasting. @(*$&@(*#&$(*&@#
Just heard about Spoticast today...... too late. Spoticast Is Removed From The Play Store For Violating Intellectual Property And App Impersonation http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...-intellectual-property-and-app-impersonation/ damn.
So I after 14 years, I got a newish car that came with Sirius, but, the sound quality from the satellite signal in the car sucked. However with the paid subscription you can use the Sirius phone ap through the bluetooth and it sounded pretty good. Then I found if you go to the Sirius site with the Chrome Browser you can Chromecast Sirius over to the AV system in the house. It's like being back in the 70's when you just let the FM radio on all day except with no commercials (Superior Waterbeds!). Sirius wouldn't be worth a nickle if it was just satellite radio but between ap/bluetooth and Chromecast it's good value, especially when you get the 'come back' offer of 6 mos. for $30. (it's Underground Garage, Tom Petty, Bluesville, and Deep Tracks for me)
used it rarely when I first bought it, but been using it heavily to cast NBA leaguepass from my tablet/phone. Also video files from Solid Explorer app and stream music using Deezer. So glad I bought it. Would like to buy another for the other TV but I'm just waiting if there's going to be another version coming out soon.
Chromecast every month is gaining new accessibility to a point where I see almost no reason for set top boxes such as Apple TV or Roku or Android TV unless you want to play arcade games on a bigger screen.
Chromecast combined with Showbox....ftw. I love the device, we don't have a cable box attached to the bedroom tv. Just a chromecast. Show box and Netflix for movies and shows, ESPN app for sports, Xfinity2go for live shows and then there are other apps that I use periodically like twitch etc.
Probably a stupid question but do you need to periodically update Chromecast? Every time I try using it it will just lose connection and not cast from my phone or ipad.
Is there a better way to stream VLC Player via Chromecast? I use that as my media player on my computer, but it buffers way too long and pauses in between when the video is playing on Chromecast. I'm on a high speed internet connection, but not able to use this method. Youtube works fine via Chromecast. Are there any other alternatives to using VLC Player or any other media player to stream movies from my hard drive on my computer to Chromecast without serious buffering and lag time?
Haven't found one yet. Pretty pathetic that a local video file streams better from my phone (via AllCast) than my laptop (through either a Chrome tab or VLC).
Thanks. I downloaded Plex just now and it seems to be working better with my desktop files. For some reason it doesn't add all my local media content on the Plex Media Player (I have to refresh a few times), but at least it is playing smoothly. Even the subtitles work which is great.
IIRC, the first time Plex scanned my desktop for media files, it took a while before it was able recognize everything. If there are still files that don't show up in your Plex library, another possibility is that Plex isn't able to decipher the show/movie from the filename. To that end, Plex has an online manual that provides instructions on recognized naming conventions for your files. Lastly, Plex also has both an Android and IOS app, which are $4.99. I've found that the app is totally worth it, as you can use your phone/tablet as a sort of remote in conjunction with Chromecast, as well as playback your desktop files anywhere you have Internet. Even better, if your friends or family have chromecast, Roku, or other device that has Plex compatibility, you can access your media and watch on their tvs as well.
yall don't use videostream? its in the chrome store. works much better than the offical chrome cast app for chrome.
considering cutting my cable and replacing it with an HD in-door antenna. anyone have some good recommendations? didn't really want to make a new thread to ask hmm probably going to go with the streamer's bundle with mygrande (i'm in austin for now). local channels and 75 mb/s internet for $70/month
That seems like a horrible deal. I'm on a promotional deal with Comcast and I only pay $36 total and that's with taxes for 105mbps and I have my own modem. Don't pay the cable company for local channels. Buy an antenna
Videostream is great too. It's very streamlined and basic, which is what a lot of people look for. I personally prefer the UI experience that Plex offers and the ease of remote access.
I haven't heard of videostream, I'll check it out. But I love PLEX. I use it all the time, since most of the movie watching I do is on my Logitech Revue which has Plex on it.
