play brewer AND kostas, not just brewer. then ariza and harden can get some real rest. then ariza's shooting will improve. even 40% from the field and 36% from three is better than this crap he's doing. kostas is far from a scrub, there's no reason he should be rotitng on the bench, killing any trade value he has.
I agree, it started to look like kostas was finding his rhythm, I bet kostas could set up brewer pretty well also
i guess just a simple case of you get what you paid for? Offensively ariza is not as good as parsons, but not that far off....
Need to note that Ariza has his worst two seasons on FG% in his career, both in Houston. 2009-2010 39.4 2014-2015 36.1
Ariza was forced to be the glue that held our defense together whilst also logging league leading minutes, far more than he's ever done before, and at age 29.
Trevor Arize is fatigued. At the beginning of the year he was shooting even better than he did in Washington. If you've paid attention this season, you'd notice that his minutes went up for a long stretch due to injuries on the team. He's not old, but he's one of these players that came into the league young and he is approaching 30 years of age. With Brewer coming in and papanikalao coming back, he should return to form in time. Certainly by the time the playoffs roll around if we don't get further decimated by injuries to our players.
Atlanta can do what they do because they have 5 shooters. The Rockets haven't had 5 shooters ever under McHale. The closest we came was Delfino at PF, and that was an amazing offense. Switch Josh Smith and and Dwight with Millsap and Horford on Atlanta and Korver's numbers will drop like a rock.
This is kind of funny. Trevor Arizas 3 pt % is part of the Rockets system. Of course you are going to shoot lower % when you shoot 8 three pointers a game. If you are shooting 8 3's your letting them fly whether its a good shot or not. I have no problem with him taking this many threes, so long as he eventually catches a better rhythm.
Wiz fan here.. I noticed Ariza's poor shooting %s (something Wiz fans were worried about him regressing after his contract year). I came here to see feedback from Rockets fans on how he was playing, sounds like his perimeter defense is still as advertised, he's playing the passing lanes etc, but his shooting has come down to earth. Which is kinda what I expected. Ariza's never really been a good shooter, so his random transformation into Kyle Korver at age 28 was a bit suspect. But as to whether or not the system is affecting Ariza, I would say that's definitely part of it. John Wall is probably THE best playmaker in the NBA for a spot-up shooter to play with (if not him then Lebron James), he's lightning quick but also has a height advantage at 6'4, can see the whole floor and make plays that 95% of players simply aren't capable of. He also has the ability to always hit his shooters right in their shooting pocket even if he's going at 100mph, which is an underrated aspect of passing that helps out rhythm shooters like TA. This is a pretty good article that breaks down how Ariza was so successful with Wall last year, and why Washington has been able to plug in guys like Pierce, Rasual Butler (leading the league in 3pt% at age 35! We signed him off the street right before the season started), Martell Webster, Otto Porter, Drew Gooden even and they are able to knock down threes at at a high rate playing with JW: The Rainmakers: Players Who Create the Most Corner 3s ^Tbh I've seen him getting some of those same looks with the Rockets, he's just bricking them. But the rhythm, timing, placement etc of the passes could be different from how they were in WAS and for someone who isn't actually a proven good shooter, changing one little thing can throw them off. I would say Ariza's offensive struggles are a combination of him not being able to duplicate the chemistry he had with Wall, but also the obvious elephant in the room which is that he was playing for a contract last season. His shooting didn't even make sense, for a career mediocre shooter some of the contested threes he was draining were mindblowing and didn't really seem sustainable. It was like every time the team needed a boost, he would just come down and drain a three no matter how far behind the line, who was on him, how late in the game, etc. Honestly if he kept shooting the ball at that rate, he would have gone down in the HOF or at least gotten his jersey retired somewhere.. I'm not even joking. Other than a few slumps he was shooting like Korver for most of the season, on crazy volume. Looking back Trevor definitely had that contract year motivation at the time. Ariza is one of those super laidback, nonplussed California dudes.. similar to Harden. But I don't know if he has the same inner drive as Harden to continue getting better, or maybe he's satisfied that he got that last big contract and set himself up for life.
SHOULD is the key but WON'T is whats going to happen because Mchale hasn't played papa and ignorantly has refused to lower Ariza's minutes. Ariza who almost leads the league in minutes(2nd) played and everyone is just so shocked that his shot is off, it's ridiculous. He is running Harden and Ariza into the ground and acts as if he has no choice. He does this every year btw.
ehh ariza is doing fine. He is just doing his job by shooting the open shot and its not falling right now. Its coaches job to pull him when he is hurting team performance with misses, which is not the case YET.
If you look at Ariza's career, he only shot better than .340 from 3 two seasons out of 15 (if you count this season). And they are not correlated to the amount of attempts. On the surface, he seemed to have been improving during the two season he played in Washington. But this season, he has regressed so far. Some might argue that last season was his contract year. I was willing to accept that, but it does not sound very logical. Contract year improvement usually relates to effort rather than skills. Shooting is a skill not really related to effort (unless you conjecture that he made a lot of effort to practice his shot).
Lately they have been having Brewer come in for Ariza and then when Harden goes to the bench Brewer slides to SG and Ariza comes back in. It would be good if Papa could get a few of those minutes, but Papa needs to show he deserves them. He hasn't looked great lately, and that could be due to lack of playing time. I think with Ariza he is giving full effort on defense and sacrificing his offense because of it. With a little more rest in the games maybe he won't be bricking as many shots.
McFail is no Pop. He can't be bothered to develop a bench rotation. So much talent being wasted by McFail. No reason why Kpap and canaan shouldn't be in the rotation besides stubbornness from McFail.
And his shooting slum started after just 6 games into the season. How could a NBA player get tired so quickly?
Only Jimmy Butler plays more minutes and he shoots a percentage close to Trevor Ariza's. He's also almost four and a half years younger. Of the top 10 players in minutes per game only LeMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard shoot above 36.9% from three. Almost all of those players are also younger than Trevor Ariza.
