He's being paid like an elite player. I realize now that he'll never be an elite player, which is disappointing because he has the athleticism to be a force comparable to Shaq and Wilt. Its just what's between his ears that will keep him from reaching his full potential. As fans of this team we'll have to accept Dwight for who he is at this point but it doesn't take the disappointment away.
If someone offered you $$ thats way beyond you know you're worth, wouldn't you take it too? Just because someone is paid with certain expectations doesn't mean thats what they're actually capable of producing
I don't blame Dwight or anyone else for taking money that an organization is willing to pay them. Like I said in another thread, its looking like the organization could have made better use of that money but the organization felt the need to sign Dwight to his contract so I'm hoping for the Rox sake it's a good return on investment eventually.
Dwight Howard needs to change his mindset. I think he's trying so hard at establishing himself as a post up player that it affects his total game. When he puts 100% in getting rebounds, putbacks, alley-oops, blocks, defense he is definitely worth that contract. It also helps if he was completely health but I don't think he is yet.
Listen to Jeff Van Gundy's thoughts on Dwight. Pretty spot on. Dwight is who he is. Unreliable 1st option. He's got tools to be a great supporting star however. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/C0o4crq6DNc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes JVG is speaking the truth in this video. I also agree Dwight can be a great supporting player on a contender, but is Dwight willing to accept this role. Like JVG said in this video, Dwight tends to mope when he isn't getting his way which I sense what is going on with Dwight now, thus the lack luster effort at times.
I hope so. If he sucks this hard in the playoffs, no amount of Harden dominance can push this team over the top, the west is just too good.
I don't think Dwight is coasting. Like a few posters above said: It's more between his ears. He's got the best talent of any center in the game today. But he's kind of "easy-going". Harden and Beverly play with much seriousness, intensity, and guts. I just hope Howard stays as injury-free as possible and then steps up his game in the playoffs. (Maybe Popavich whispered in his ear)
Coasting is contagious. When one of your star players starts coasting, other players think it's ok to coast. Star players are supposed to be leaders, not coasters.
Howard can't be changed I hope Morey can trade him to other team in this summer, then try to sign Mark Gasol & Dragic
Something's wrong. I don't know if he's still hurt, or if there is something behind the scenes causing problems. It isn't just his performance, it's his overall demeanor. Dwight is always very animated. He has his various antics, some people hate them, but it is part of his personality. When you watch him now, he will smile or complain occasionally, but he's rarely animated, happy or angry. It's like he's been lobotomized. I'm not panicking. A season has plenty of peaks and valleys, and I'm not concerned with Phoenix or NO overtaking us for the 8th seed. Having said that I would be lying if I said I wasn't becoming really concerned that something may be irreparably broken with him, mentally or physically.
About what, that's what I find so confusing. His homeboy is here, the team was winning, and he was putting up his usual numbers. There's was nothing to mope about
It could be the touches comment from the other day, or maybe the team is passed at him for recommending Smith causing the dynamic to change, he'll it could be anything with Dwight, he is just fragile mentally. DD
I remember that rant by JVG. Now that I hear him again, with Dwight as a player on my team....every syllable is correct. Every syllable. Can't also help but wonder if Dwight's still pouting after Dallas got Rondo and we more or less stayed pat (for the time being). Not that I'm defending Dwight....oh, no, no no no.
