Josh Smith will become completely redundant if/when TJones is healthy. TJones is a younger better version of JSmooth. Hopefully, we can get him healthy, and move Jsmith to the 4th spot replacing Dorsey as that is where he belongs. Our bigs, ratings, IMHO. 1. Howard 2. Tjones 3. DMo 4. JSmith However, as long as TJones is not healthy, we can hope that Morey is right about his philosphy of finding players with some tread left on the tires, JTerry was one.....so, let's just hope he is the same. And this is my only post in this thread -....no more gumming up saying stuff over and over....I hope. DD
I'm getting ready for this next game against the Pelicans to see if J-Smoove can handle Anthony Davis.
if josh smith can limit davis to 15-18 points on 40% shooting then he'd get the nod from me. i dont think he has done anything impressive for the team yet. that being said he's a steal for 2 million
Ok, I will answer but I don't want to get into a long debate in this thread - let others have their say. It is the same way that Asik was redundant with Dmo - you take the entire package of the player, offense, defense, impact, and you weight all of them - TJones is a much better offensive player, has a greater impact on the game overall as he creates room for Howard and is a threat to score, and is about equal in off the ball shot blocking. Where Smith is a bit better - is on defensive positioning - but in every other category, TJones is better and he makes the TEAM better - which is the final barometer. JSmith has been in serious decline, both athletically, and shot making wise for the last couple of years - and his defense has slipped as well. TJones, when healthy, makes JSmith redundant or at least expendable as his impact will not be that great as a 4th big. DD
Don't think that makes them redundant. Use Josh when we need defense. Use TJo when you need some offensive spark. It's not one or the other. You need to be deep to win.
The huge difference I see, from a playoff perspective between Josh and TJ, is strength. Smith does not get pushed around, and his intellect on defense reminds me of Kenyon Martin on those Nugget teams. I think TJ is on track to be an amazing player, but I'm not sure If we can afford his major weakness in the playoffs for extended minutes, when the game slows down. All of that said, I generally agree. It is a huge dice roll to see If Smith can turn his career around here in a supporting role on a championship team. Finger's crossed for some big games from Josh Smith.
Thank you for posting these, I enjoyed reading your other threads, especially the new one on Smith's game against the Hornets. I'm too new to rep you (or anyone for that matter), but your data backs up what we've been seeing on defense for both players.
Couldn't agree more. Sadly, this will all fall on deaf ears. ohh, but, but but...josh smith is much better defensively! I can tell most people here have never really watch smith play in his ATL and DET days. It's going to take at least about 8-10 games before fans realize that jsmoove is not as good as people think he is.
I don't think the problem here is people thinking Josh Smith is better than he is, I think it's a few people overrating Terrence Jones. They are remarkably similar players actually, the big difference is that Smith learned how to play defense and he picked up a ton of bad habits on offense. Otherwise they are basically the same player. You probably shouldn't bash Smith if you are a Jones fan because Smith is potentially what Jones could look like in 8 years or so.
We have a very defensive minded starting lineup, Jones has a lot more value offensively for us now that Parsons/Lin and their offense are gone. We had a top 5 offense last season - this year, it's bottom 11. Smith is excellent defensively and much better than Jones. Having said that, adding a plus defender in Ariza and the overall team defense being far superior than to last season makes me wonder how much of a defensive liability Jones would be on that end.
Explain how they are the same when one is a really good defender and the other has a very efficient offense. They are opposites. Merge them and you have an awesome player
Exactly. They are much, much different. Josh Smith has elite tools on the defensive end, Terrence Jones has elite tools on the offensive end. Josh Smith can give you decent defense with 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks without even trying much.
