Taiwan is a proud independent sovereign nation and close US ally.

I do not care what Lin does right now, all your LOFs can go to Laker's forum.

    Independence from what??

Taiwan ruled China didn't they? The ROC (Republic of China) got beaten by the PRC (current government of China), and so retreated to Taiwan. The ROC still claim they rule all of China (um, no they don't), and meanwhile the PRC claim that they now own Taiwan.
There is no need for an 'independence day'. New Zealand didn't have one, but it is a country. There IS a movement to formally rename the ROC into the ROT (republic of Taiwan) - however they can't agree to do it, because it makes it seem like they aren't currently independently run, when they are, AND it makes it seem like they don't run China (which they don't).

    Mess.

    But not China. (ish).

Wow. Interesting thread. LOL. I can't say I missed this crap. Let me get the ball rolling with another topic before I bow out.

    Jacky Robinson = Jeremy Lin?

    Discuss.

Taiwan is in the UN. They just aren't allowed to call it 'Taiwan' (for many of the reason listed in my above post).

Also, China (PRC) has only existed in the UN since 1971. Prior to that, Taiwan held the seat (ROC).

Well we have 266 pages of mostly crap, followed by a few accurate assessments of how crap Lin is (although, those might qualify in the mostly crap category?) - so why not digress!!!

I agree. Anybody who follows the NBA knows Lin is wildly inconsistent, but Byron's tone -- to the extent you can have a "tone" via written word -- rubs me the wrong way. If you have a guy who is so obviously a confidence-driven player, why would you think highlighting his deficiencies in the media is a good idea?

What should have happened in 1950 was a signed peace treaty between the PRC and the ROC like happened everywhere else there was a Communist civil war clearly defining who owns what. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and now there's a mess because Taiwan is independently ruled by a separate government from the PRC but cannot be called an independent country because the PRC will start a war over it(or one could call it simply a continuation of the Chinese civil war that technically never ended).

I think Scott is going with a little tough love. You can't continuously coddle a player with confidence issues. At some point the guy has to sink or swim. Scott has called him out, benched him, and called him out again and Jeremy Lin still hasn't gotten pissed off or shown something to win his job back. He's basically responded by turtling up into his shell and leaving it in God's hands which is not exactly the kind of response you want to see from a $15m a year player. Honestly I can't remember the last player that was this mentally soft. It's incredible. He may be playing for God but the Lakers sign his checks. He's destroying his potential contract value for next year.

Seriously, my 2nd and last post in this thread.

TBH there is no excuse for his consistency, but for some reason it's signicantly worse this year. It's kind of similar to when he first signed here. Took him half a season or so, but I personally think he adjusted okay especially in the 2nd year. Bottomline for me is this: It seems he went from a periodically inconsistent player to frequently inconsistent player this year.

It's obvious, Lin is a type of player that needs the ball and the right system. Without one these things, he's just an average player, and w/o both he's a below average player. And throw in the Kobe element...and shall I say lack of a system, you get the player we see today...a subpar wildly inconsistent player.

With that said, I wish him well and I'm sure, or at least hope he'll adjust. Otherwise, he may be a lifelong journeyman who eventually ends up playing overseas.

    Happy New Year!
    Posted by JLin

Since my last blog post, a lot has happened. If I were to be honest, this season has gone in the opposite direction that I anticipated. I went through one of the worst, if not the worst, slump I've had in my basketball life, as well as having some of my poorest performances ever as a basketball player. Also at times, it has felt like the barriers were insurmountable or that I was powerless to control things around me. From a basketball standpoint, I’m obviously disappointed, but God is always working -- even through life's struggles and disappointments.

Recently, I've been really challenged with living with joy. To me, happiness is dependent on one's circumstances, but joy rises above life's circumstances. Trust me, there have been many times this past season where I was filled with frustration, many situations where I felt overwhelmed and many nights where I couldn't sleep much because I was thinking about the game. But through it all, I've been learning how to surrender the results to God, how to walk by faith and not by sight, how to be renewed through times of prayer/Scripture and how to fight for a life of joy in the midst of trials. For example, instead of obsessing over how to change things I have no control over, I'm learning to give each game to God and I’m learning to simply be grateful for each day I get to be healthy, on the court, and doing what I love. Going through trials has allowed me to focus and depend on Christ more...[/rQUOTEr]

The rest of his blog entry: Happy New Year!
