That's right. You don't know. Don't make comparisons if you don't know what you're talking about.

I was too. Did you see the fan concept art for that? I thought it looked sharp. I can't find it online now.

There had been a hockey team here in Houston under that name before, too. I love the space theme, frankly.

Sigh... This thread seems to have run its course. People voted. It's clear that most fans here don't feel connected to the brand.

Wait...I'm connected to the team. I just wish it had a different brand.

The brand and the team are different. The most important brand for a sports team to me is the city it represents. If you're from Houston, I'm connected to you, and I'm rooting for you.

I had season tickets the first few seasons....I don't miss a game. I watch regularly with my kids...and I've already thought about what it's going to be like watching without them when they've grown up and moved out. My 14 year old son would likely be offended at the notion of changing the team's name or colors. He's been going to games since he was 2...and doesn't miss them on TV. He didn't grow up with the Oilers or live through the whole "pick the name for our new expansion team" era.

If the Texans won a Super Bowl, I would likely shed tears. :)

    I'm deeply connected.

But I do wish they were branded differently.

    WTF is an Opollo?

Apollos is a name that was previously used by other teams here in town...and fits well with the Rockets/Astros space theme the city has otherwise. Apollos was one of the names on the final list that was considered by McNair.

No, i don't. It's related to the space program...like Astros and Rockets. Are those cheesy names?

I get this is entirely subjective...but something like Apollos is far more Houston to me than the generic Texans who might as well be from Waco or Lufkin or Fort Worth.

I would have been fine with a space reference name. I would have also been fine with something in reference to livestock like the Texas Bulls, Houston Wranglers, etc.

Maybe it was cheesy but it was a likable name and oil is big business around here. Plus as I already stated the Texans name was stolen from Dallas... And I personally hate Dallas. I also think the 'Texans' name alienates potential fans who aren't in Texas. How many NFL franchises are named after the residents of the state....???

You the Texan's season is just over when we have threads like these. We can't agree that some people like the team some don't. Some fans like the name, some fans don't. Some fans like the logo, some fans don't. A lot of Rockets fans hated the cartoon-rocket on pajama-looking jerseys they had but we were still fans of the team.

I love football. I love having a team in town I can cheer for. The name, the logo, the announcers, the reporters, and all that have grown on me. I love the team more now than I did on day 1.

When I think of Apollos, I think of the greek god not the space program.

Wow. Complaints about the "Texans" name and support for the god-awful "Appolos" name. Yikes.

Well said, and omg between the Rockets unis and trading the team away for Barkley really pushed the fans loyalty.

If the logo had a space theme, that's what would matter. That's what you would have thought of over time if you didn't initially.

The Rockets changing their entire color scheme immediately after winning back to back championships just might be the stupidest brand decision by a pro sports franchise ever. I'll never understand that. I remember hearing the logic for it at the time...but it's really among the most short-sighted branding decisions I've seen made by a pro sports franchise.

Naming another sports franchise after a rocket, in the same city as a sports franchise called the "Rockets" is the epitome of cheese. Bringing back an old NFL franchise name was infinitely better than that idea. The Apollos sounds like a good name for a semi-pro team, but would be awful for an actual professional sports team.

If you're old enough, try to remember how consistently horrible the Cardinals, Saints, Seahawks, Patriots, Colts, Jets and Buccaneers were 25 years ago. The cap has all but ensured enough parity for any franchise to garner success every few years if they have engaged enough staff, patient enough ownership and earnestly supportive fans.
