Awesome! I haven't been this excited about stealing a coach from an SEC power since we stole Fran from Bama! DAMNIT!!!!!!!
That really is how big of a signing this was. To get a guy like Muschamp that was jobless, Foster who's in a weak conference or someone upcoming from a smaller school is one thing... but to reach right over and pluck a proven guy from the program that is currently winning more games. Yipee.
Supposedly Malik just said that he is still committed to Texas, but that he would open a dialogue back up with the Ags if they gave him a call. If we could pull Malik and Mack back on board, and then add Sheffield on Friday, this would be an amazing turnaround from 2 weeks ago.
That's the rumor, but nothing confirmed. I heard a couple of rumors that the LSU WR coach was possibly jumping as well, but that is highly unconfirmed. In other news, Daylon Mack has already cancelled his official visit to LSU and looking to visit A&M.
I think Mack back to TAMU is highly possible. Malik would be completely nuts. Aside from that Chavis is bound to bring a handful of other, lower profile prospects along with him.
Don't forget the Aggies are still the favorites for Kendall Sheffield and are still at least in the running for Marvell Tell, although he's probably USC bound. Plus a recruiting website has already talked to DeBerry, who was excited about the Chavis hire and couldn't have been too impressed with OU's effort against Clemson. Figure a 50/50 chance Lodge recommits (depends a lot on if Wyatt gets brought on staff IMO) and the Aggies could definitely finish strong. Malik is at least willing to talk to Sumlin, and if he jumps UT's recruiting goes pretty much out the window. I think he'll stay a 'Horn though, his parents have too much pull with him.
Don't think he'll be drafted but best of luck! <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Special thanks to my Texas A&M family and coaching staff. I've prayed about it and decided to pursue my dream of playing in the NFL <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Gigem?src=hash">#Gigem</a></p>— ★=Williams (@twll3) <a href="https://twitter.com/twll3/status/550504609299456000">January 1, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
It's looking like he will, but nothing confirmed. A couple of recruits (mainly Kyle Phillips) have mentioned on Twitter that he's staying, and that's about all.
So the Aggies stopped recruiting any other CBs because Sheffield wanted to be "the man", and he ends up committing to a school with 6 other DBs in this class and 3 other 5* CBs sitting on the bench and the Ags are left holding the bag. Again. This sucks.
I mean, he has to have some inclination if he'll be drafted, right? No way people just opt out of a good thing in college for a highly unguaranteed thing in the pros...
Kendall Sheffield said he's known from the beginning of his senior season that he was going to #Bama. - From Derek Tyson (ESPN guy?) Good thing in college? He was in a three-man rotation. Maybe he'll be drafted, maybe not. He's a tiny back. Not everyone can be Darren Sproles. He gotta do what he gotta do though. I wish him the best. Not sure staying another year would have significantly boosted his stock. Recent A&M backs: Goodson 4th Michael 2nd Malena undrafted Gray 6th
Hard to hold it against him. Bama is consistently in the championship discussion. Unfortunately for him, he has a long way to climb up the depth chart. Not sure when he will actually play.
Well, Richard Moore just recommitted and will be an early enrollee. At least something went right today.
