Rick Barry will always say poor shooting big men should shoot FTs underhanded. he will always bring up how he convinced teammate George Johnson (6-11 C for the Warriors) to hoot underhanded. He also admits that players resist it due to concern about being teased (to be honest, should sub 20% would be worse embarrassment than grannyshooting). I actually don't see how relearning the mechanics and release points of underhanded shooting would make for better FT shooting... just seems that a similar FT shot motion as your regular shot motion makes most sense. Barry was a successful FT shooter with it (@90%) but so many other good shooters use a normal shot. Heck, if you are experimenting... approach it like Bibby and shoot from the far right.
I'm sorry guys! But I don't know why Dorsey is still in Rockets uniform. His got the lowest IQ in basketball!
It makes sense only if your regular shot motion hits regularly. For players like Dorsey who has poor shooting touch, his regular shooting motion doesn't make a lot of baskets anyway. Why use it in FT shooting?
We should have cut Dorsey over Adrien at the end of camp. Now, we compounded our mistake by keeping Dorsey over Black. Either way, we are stuck with him.
I don't think we'll see him on the floor unless we're not yet in the bonus. At ~19% FT, it's basically a turnover whenever he gets fouled. You can't even fault opposing teams for hacking him. If he's that bad, it's a valid strategy. There are people that haven't touched a basketball in their entire lives that can get near that percentage.
While I believe his FT shooting is so bad it in itself is enough to nail him to the bench... it isn't just his poor FT shooting and void on offense. I also see a number of times where he is asleep on defense and/or the defensive boards.
I agree, it's a long regular season and everyone should get their chance to show what they can do and how they fit the team. Dorsey is a good defensive player, a big body in the paint and probably a good guy to have around especially in the training. I prefer Dorsey in than a 7 man rotation every night.
When TJ comes back, our big rotation will be: - Dwight and Smith starting - D-Mo and TJ off the bench - some minutes of D-Mo with Dwight - TJ with Dwight - and maybe Josh with D-Mo.
And at least a dozen , maybe more have been posting we should trade DMo . which only leads to .... More Dorsey. Any Dorsey = too many. Anyone finding ways to get more Dorsey = Epic Fail. Hell I think they shoulda cut him instead of Black .... May as well play Canaan at the center spot as it would be more productive.
We can't trade do Dorset can't see a single minutes on the team we need to cut him sign Jermaine O'Neil
I do think that it is not uncommon for the coach to throw in an end-of-bench player for a few minutes every now and then just to give a different look, especially at times when the team is stagnant. Once in a blue moon the player goes bonker and has a game of his lifetime. You never know.
Just wanted to say that Dorsey had a tremendous game tonight. Dorsey, Brewer, and DMO all almost won the game for the Rockets. Of course he had a couple bad plays but man he was a force on the glass and defensively.
For whatever it's worth, Joey's +/- has been awesome these last several games. Personally, I like him and want to see him out there. I wouldn't hate it if Dwight was limited to around 28 minutes per game (he's dealing with back and knee pain now), which would help DMo and Joey get more time.
I wish Dorsey would've stayed in the game last night when he and dmo was subbed out for Harden and Howard.
He definitely seems to be improving. Won't need him once T Jones is in game shape though. Can't wait to see that rotation of Howard/Smith/Dmo/Jones. So many different weapons to put next to Dwight. D-Mo will and should take all the backup C minutes IMO.
