True that we need a play-maker at the PG position but a guy that shoots 19% FT's should never be on the court during crunch time. Heck, it's hard enough seeing Howard on the floor since he can't hit FT's either. If I was coaching against the Rockets I'd go to the hack-a-Shaq play every time Dorsey and Howard attempted a shot. Chances are beter than 80% w/ Dorsey on the line that you get the ball back w/o the Rockets scoring a point. 50% chance w/ Howard. I know Howard is a good defender but why leave him on the floor during the final seconds when the Spurs are playing everyone to guard against the 3 ball?
What they need to do is to reduce Dorsey's minutes to ZERO, and give those mins to Kpap as a stretch PF. Kpap knows how to play basketball and he contributes to good ball movement whenever he's on the floor. Mchale needs to find mins for Kpap.
7 minutes. SEVEN MINUTES! that's all he played. You guys really think Dorsey lost the game in 7 minutes? He actually played good D while he was in there. If he didnt miss those 4 fts that put the Rockets in that DEEP DEEP hole of ONE point at the end of the 3rd qtr, Rockets would have won. wake up dummies.
Tarik black could not have provided that defense on Marc Gasol the other night. Dorsey is a superior player to Black. Yes he shoots 19%. On all 13 of the free throws (or whatever it is) he's shot all season. Big ****ing deal.
I'm not blaming Dorsey for losing the game, smart guy. I just want to know why DMo is not getting the minutes - DMo is an under-utilized weapon at this point.
D-Mo got 25 minute and his +/- was -6. Dorsey got 7 minutes and his +/- was +4. Quibble if you want, but this is not a travesty.
WTF does that mean? Who's a better center - DMo or Dorsey? If the answer is DMO, then the effort should be made to give DMo as many of the minutes left over at PF & C from Smith and Howard as possible - and by that, I mean all - I don't see why that's difficult. Looking at plus minus for one game is short sighted. You need to play your best players - and that proves out over a season and the playoffs.
No, actually, you need a rotation of players. You don't have all your best players on the court at all times.
you might be on to something there, its like as if he been lifting weights before the game and then shoot free throws. anyone here who have tried it before would know u will be shooting very low percentage when u do that
That's a pretty ironic statement Dorsey has become better and better on the defensive end since the Laker game which is why he was signed. Last game when Dwight was getting abused by MVP candidate Marc Gasol he came in and locked him up. Even before the Memphis game Dorsey played good defense in the post, defense we know DMO can't play 1 on 1. Today he came in for a few minutes and and played more good defense. Dorsey isn't playing enough as it is for him to be the focus of a thread. Just admit it, you're mad he missed 4 freethrows. Rockets fans need a scapegoat and Dorsey is it.
Eh. Dorsey and D-Mo both play good 1 on 1 defense. It just depends on what the match-up is. Dorsey gets a lot of flack for no reason just like D-Mo used to. The reason why the defense looks bad right now is because we have 3 new guys in the rotation and their defensive awareness (of our system) is not the best right now. People don't rotate at the right time. This happened a few times this game. Especially on box-outs. Not everyone is Dwight Howard and can rebound even when two opposing players are around him with ease. The team just needs to do a better job in general with rotations and boxing out.
Even if he is serviceable during the season..He has been exposed and is totally useless and unusable in the playoffs. Period. Terrible signing ..shouldve kept black!
Maybe I am a dumbo as you labeled me, but I don't think the statement is ironic. I didn't see the game (as stated in the opening post), so I am not mad at his missed free throws. I actually appreciate this post. It actually makes a case for Dorsey being on the floor over DMo. I don't necessarily buy it, but I appreciate the explanation. I had thought - from the defensive stats (both individual defense and rim protecting - from his awesome post up moves - from the enormous possibly justified hype in the GARM - that DMo was by far a better center than Dorsey. If that's the case, I contend DMo should get all of Dorsey's minutes. If Dorsey actually is better in certain situations, then I have no problem with Dorsey getting some PT. I'm not convinced, but I don't have to be.
Dorsey is so soft. The most you can expect from him is to box out his man and let someone else grab the rebound because he sucks at doing both. Tonight, he didn't even box out his man. We tried playing D-Mo at the 5 and you saw what the Grizzlies did to him. Either we get killed on the boards or we get killed in transition or both. This Rockets team needs to pick there battles and win them. You don't do the same thing all game and expect to win. When Dorsey is in he obviously needs help getting the rebound and if that means giving up a few transition opportunities than so be it. We have a huge hole at backup C. Jones will help, but we need a big who can grab rebounds off the bench. Right now, we need to win games and try to sign Jermaine O'Neal. He would help so much. He is going to make his decision soon and we can't lose until he does. Emeka Okafor is probably gonna retire. Getting defensive rebounds and under 10 turnovers are the battles I want to see won. Maximize our offensive possessions.
Yeah, somebody you can't keep on the floor because he can't manage to knock down FTs at even a 20% clip isn't a problem at all.
