BW has been anything but middling of late. Even today: 68% completion, 8.3 y/a, and a victory. He's already much better than Fitzpatrick.
Okay, so with that: Clowney heeds to become LT right? You think Clowney is a top 3 defense player in the game. Looks like by your own admission, the texans already screwed up. But hey: this is what we are trying to say about you guys. Not only did the texans screw up because Clowney will NEVER be LT, but they made it even worse because they skipped on picking a player at their most needed position: qb, and a position that is the most critical position on the field to boot. 1. Clowney will never be LT. 2. Still don't have a qb. 3. Bortles, Carr and Bridgewater all have more promise than Clowney does.
Maybe he is Alex Smith 2.0 but no one can argue TB>XSF. Only one pick later but a huge gap on the field. It's conceivable that with a trade the Texans could have had Mack and TB. Oh well....
I don't know what Clowney will become, I don't know if he'll bounce back from surgery like some have or if he'll never amount to anything, but Clowney's status doesn't make "meh" quality QB's a better option. You don't blew the first pick on a QB that's nothing special when you have better options, even if Clowney wasn't that guy, there are still better options out there than any of those QB's from this class. I can understand why a Titans fan would have wanted the Texans to draft a weak QB with a top pick, but that's even more reason why Texans fans wouldn't want to. Drafting Locker and Gabbert set back the Titans and Jags several years, the Texans didn't fall for that.
tannehill was **** his first 1 year. Alex Smith was a bust for like what 5 years? Alex Smith turned himself into a game manager. Look at tannehill now? the guy is improving by leaps and bounds.
You blew the pick on a player, who by your own admission, needed to be the next LT to be worthy of that pick. It ain't even the next John Taylor. I'm not sure why you give Clowney a pass but you are ready to proclaim judgement on Bridgewater: and the others.
Again, I haven't seen enough of Clowney to say one way or the other. It all depends on how he comes back, if he comes back. He could very well end up a mistake, but that wouldn't mean that taking a QB in an awful QB class was the right move. Also, I didn't say that he had to be the next LT to make him worth the pick, you did.
QB A- 250 yards 2 TD's 1 interception 71.4% completion percentage 98.5 QB rating QB B- 209 yards 1 TD 1 interception 68% completion percentage 90.2 QB rating Which did better?
Well you saw zero of Bridgewater before declaring him a bust. Meanwhile you praise all the rookies from the Texans draft who aren't contributing for one reason or another (often because they just suck right now).
Oh so now those stats matter? What happened to PFF grades and tipped interceptions not being the QBs fault? Or blaming the OL or Andre?
Oh, so a qb drafted #1 has to be Tom Brady or Peyton, but a defense end doesn't have to be one of the greats to play the game if he is drafted #1. Really? So who does Clowney have to become, exactly? Or does his reputation as a college player speak for itself?
LOL, do they not matter just because they don't say what you want them to say? A team sets themself back a lot more if they try to make a marginal QB their "franchise QB" than they do going with any other position. Also, like I've said a few times now, Clowney either being the right guy or being a mistake doesn't make picking a marginal quality QB a better idea.
You mean like what they did with Matt Shaub? Or Tom Savage. Or Case Keenum. You've said a few times that you don't know what Clowney will be. Yet you seem to think that Clowney doesn't have to reach the same level as a QB does, in the same draft spot. Taking a marginal DE and being okay with it, is what I don't quite get. If you had the same standards on Clowney as you did Bortles, I could understand you better, but you don't. Or so it seems. Plus, you have to know that Clowney is a bust. It's all right there.
