the.east's top tier has never been this.weak and the.west.ranking has.never been this.close. plus the traditional.powerhouses seem to al have.a weakness. we are going for a ring this year. thats what harden and howard signed up.for. if adding dragic will be the best.option, if the only.way phx agrees is to have.dmo then moriz will push the button
Never hated on Dragic. Lowry got put out to pasture? I know you think he's a career backup but you need to watch him in Toronto. I never said compare what they get now. Compare what they get in the open market. Dragic > DMo and it won't be close. Heck Dragic would be better than Smith, the guy who sent DMo to the bench
Agreed, but with Howard, Josh and extra moves from Morey, I think we'd be fine. I really like DMo, just wouldn't want to pass up a star playmaker like Dragic. Ideally we trade other pieces like Capella and TJones
A large group of people always overvalue their teams players. Just the way it is. We have a small, testy, reactionary group that cares more about T-Jones than the Rockets. There are also some that think too highly of D-Mo based on the last 3-4 weeks. These groups overlap some. If D-Mo weren't so mentally and physically soft, I would be more hesitant to trade him. But it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he started playing like a girl again in the playoffs and fell out of the rotation. Morey's focus is putting together the best possible playoff roster. Of course, if the Rockets could get Dragic without giving up D-Mo, that would be best case.
Some of you all really need to take a chill pill because you sound like little teenage girls that are on their cycle arguing over this. smdh One thing for sure that has been proven over and over again, DM is smarter than everyone on this board and their opinions of what he should do! I would love to have Dragic and see clearly our need for an upgrade at PG, while I still love what Bev brings to this team. We need another great playmaker to take some of the pressure off of Harden. I also see DMo and his potential being a left handed 7 footer. But DMo has only done this for a small portion of this season, even if we all saw and agreed on his potential before it actually started to manifest. I would not like to trade DMo for Dragic myself and feel that we have enough other assets that Phoenix should ultimately accept come the trade deadline. BUT, if DM decides that he wants to trade DMo to bring in Dragic, I will surely trust his judgement to refill the backup C position with someone adequate and know that he made the decision because he believes our team will be better for it. While I do understand debating these issues and their merits, as this is what the forum is for, some of you take it too far and get to entrenched in your positions without realizing that you don't know all of DM's plans and options, and therefore it may be wiser to temper some of your positions that you dig into too deep. Very few thought that DM would have us in the great position we are in right now once he didn't sign Parsons after missing out on the summer sweepstakes. Take a chill pill and enjoy the best team that the Rockets have had in a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time!
It isn't based on 3 or 4 weeks, we've felt he could do this for a while. We scream for him to get regular post chances, when he finally gets the regular post chances we wanted he excels and looks like a great player, just like we thought he would. Then suddenly he stops getting regular post chances and he starts to look like a mediocre player again. If the rockets are going to continue to ignore D-mo's post game, I'm not opposed to trading him. I don't care how good something is if you refuse to use it, it isn't worth much. He's once again being underutilized, often in favor of much less efficient shots (contested 3's), and that's what pisses us off. D-Mo is a much, much better player than what he's being used as by the Rockets.
DMo is the Soviet Jeremy Lin. Has some talent but some of his fans really overrate him and blame the team for not using him how they want.
Part of the reasoning behind picking up Dragic is ensuring the team can win at their current clip while giving Harden more of a break. Harden playing at his peak during the playoffs will be the absolute key to a championship. I hope we can find another playmaker off the bench for less than the price of DMo and the NO pick. Jarret Jack seems like a good target for Caanan and Capela, or something like that.
I think with Caanan, Johnson, Capela, Shved, Papa, Lull, Gentile, NO pick, NY 2nd and any other future firsts that we may want to consider; the Rockets have enough assets to get that PG upgrade from somewhere without giving up DMo or TJones, or any other rotation players; even if it has to be done with a 3 team trade to get the other right assets to make a deal work. I would prefer to see us enter the playoffs with a big rotation of Dwight/Smith with DMo/Jones backing them up....that is DEEP. Hopefully TJones will get healthy and come back strong at least after the All Star break.
It is a shallow look at what folks are saying - it has to do with not having a dependable CENTER if something happens to Dwight. DD
DMo is one of the most valuable trade chips in the league IMO. An ascending big with legit size, skill in the post, moves well laterally, underrated on defense just because he does not sky and block shots, terrific work ethic and attitude, and young as hell. My guess is that if you applied truth serum to GMs around the league,he would be among the five most desired available players in the league. More valuable than vukavic, not much different from valenciunas, higher upside than splitter. This reminds me of the Yao/mcgrady era where we dealt our most valuable asset, the pick that would have been sefalosha but could have been Gay, for Battier. We made the decision that Battier would be enough to make us a contender, but Yao and McGrath couldn't stay healthy. Is Dragic the final piece to take this team to the elite tier of contenders? Fits position and role of need, organization is uniquely familiar with his makeup and game, strong relationship with the coach and organization. I think you'd answer this question with a yes. Second question is value - I think dmo is worth more than a resigned dragic. We are focused on dragic, but the question is what could Morey get for Dmo in the open market. Hypothetically, how about ty Lawson and a big. I just randomly selected a good PG as an example. The question of value around the league the great unknown, but in my armchair, I think it is huge. What if Dmo is the next Marc Gasol? If we go for dragic for Dmo, I would ask for a big in return, like Plumlee. We could balance that out with another player but Phoenix would plug in Dmo as their starting center for the next five plus years. He fits the profile of what they want to a tee. His youth and trajectory is an absolute dream for them and would immediately improve their team THIS year.
The Rockets won't win a championship without Dwight. Focusing on backups for star players is short-sighted. If something happens to Dwight, it's time to look at next season. Can't you see this? Rockets have legit championship aspirations. Dwelling on what could go wrong is just dumb. The focus should be on finding an 8-player rotation that can win 16 playoff games. DD, do you seriously think the Rockets could contend this season with D-Mo as the starting C if Dwight went down? I hate to give you the bad news: No. D-Mo's value to this team is as a versatile reserve player that can swing between PF & C. He is NOT valuable as a starting C to a contender.
Yes, I do, if we picked up Dragic for Capella the NO pick and Canaan... I think Dmo can anchor the defense and provide occasional post up points, with this current team - he already did that when Dwight was out. DD
Answer my actual questions: (1) Are the Rockets contenders this year? (2) Would they still be contenders without Dwight? If you have enough sense to answer yes & no, the notion of keeping D-Mo to play starting C "if something happens to Dwight" is not a priority. Get it?
You are the one is ignorant. DMo was born in the Soviet Union. It's not his fault that the Soviet Union dissolved shortly after DMo's birth. I like DMo's talent. I'd prefer not trading him. In fact, I'd prefer not giving up anything of value while having other teams hand us valuable players. Hell, I was kind of unhappy that Morey was rumored to be giving up all these recent draft picks for a 1 year rental of Dwight Howard back in 2012. I really wanted Morey to keep DMo and Royce White. But Josh Smith just happen out of the blue every day and you can't count on blessing in the skies. Most of the time, it requires assets to make a trade for a difference maker-- and Dragic is such a difference maker, a Third Team All NBA player. I'd rather Morey pay as little as possible to get Dragic or any other additional talent-- and Morey's history is that he would negotiate hard to pay as little as possible for even a guy he really wants. But I wouldn't be complaining if DMo ends up as part of the deal for Dragic.
