IIRC Detroit was trying to trade Smith to Sactown earlier this year but also asked for too much. Right now it looks like they were stupid and should have got rid of Smith for whatever they could get, the fact that Sactown was about to take on that huge contract is funnier too.

The counter argument is SVG was headed to the Warriors unless they also gave him final say over personnel decisions. The Pistons are such an NBA backwater now.

Should have told him to move on, but they were desperate for a proven coach after the Curry/Kuester/Frank/Cheeks disasters.

I think we should wait and get him once SVG cuts him.

I'm sure he's a little more gruntled now that Smith is gone.

I can see him staying in Detroit now that J-Smoove is gone. That move , releasing Smith (and the Rox signing him) made so much sense it is crazy.

I know the Pistons have been poop defensively and have a way to go to be more unselfish and smarter offensively but I can see that team going on a nice run to compete for the 8th playoff spot in the East by the time we get to March/early April.
The talent is there, now it is about SVG getting through to the BJennings and Drummonds.

Do you think Monroe and Drummond mesh with each other? I have doubts.

SVG is staggering their minutes for now. This frontcourt could work if Monroe develops a nice jumper. I believe he is 7/15 for midrange shots, if he takes a few more of those it'll open up the lane.

Svg getting rid of all disgruntled players so he doesn't get fired. He needs to check his emotions first.

Yeah man I do. They have a way to go in terms of making it work but as the other poster after your question mentioned, Monroe expanding his range would definitely help. I guess we will see how the team is around ASW and how Monroe and Drummond are doing on the court(when they do see time together). I do believe it can work though.

Man I think it's one of those addition by subtraction moments.
J-Smoove I'm sure had a bad attitude while in Detroit(although he willingly signed his contract) because at this stage in his career he needed to be on a championship contender not a team trying to win a playoff series(The Hawks) or trying to get to .500(The Pistons). I can imagine SVG worried about JSmith's attitude around Monroe and Drummond. (As well as how to fit all 3 of them together).

I wouldn't say it made no sense back in the summer when this was proposed. No one thought Korver and Teague would be THIS good this year, given their past.

Just like I'm sure in the summer if someone proposed a DMo for 1st rounder trade, most would jump on it, even if it doesn't make sense today.

Good post. Yeah he has legit post skills which is a lost art these days. He would definitely start in Houston, not back up DMo. Lol
