When your starting Center has knee issues and is fading in production, you do not trade his up and coming BACKUP center. That would be one of the dumbest trades in Rockets history. DMo is untradeable at this point - unless you are getting a better CENTER in his place. This team can win it all - as assembled, it has starting caliber NBA players 2 deep at every position - you don't need anything else. DD
Then why trade Asik based on that logic? If DMO is slated only as a backup C, he'll probably want out like Asik due to his potential. I like him as a PF/C for our team, but if they don't pass to him in the post, its kind of wasted talent and I wouldn't begrudge DMO demanding a trade or wanting out. He's one of my favorite players and probably the most interesting player on the team in terms of potential--and I agree with you that it would be a dumb trade--but it didn't stop the Rockets from trading a really good backup C before...with Dwight's injury issues.
Asik was about to be a FA, DMo isn't. Next year is when we can start asking questions about moving him if we don't give him enough of a role.
If we could get Dragic and keep DMO and Terry...man I would be SOOOO friggin happy. Would prefer to hold on to Papa too but he might be part of a deal.
This. Dmo is at this point untradeble. Howard maybe is gone after the next season and his knee are a problem and dmo is now one of the best young bigs in the nba. (Davis, drumund, and then comes dmo?)
Okay, then we lose Smith because we don't have his Bird rights so our PF and C depth is destroyed and we have 2 expensive PG's
I love Dragic - but if the Rockets wanted him so much they should have kept him when he was here. That being said - you don't trade big for small, unless small is a superstar or difference maker - right now, Dragic is an upgrade, but if you have to downgrade another position it is not worth it. We have no weaknesses as a team - none - we are two deep at every single position - and in some 3 deep.....Brewer and Smith were acquired without giving up top end rotation players, if you can do that for Dragic, then fine, but if you have to make your team weaker in other areas, then no. DD
totally agree. Would love to have Dragic on the team but at this point, I think Harden as the primary playmaker and #1 caliber defense in the league, bringing in Dragic is a possible minor upgrade (for the team as a whole) vs. losing a very good big when your starting C is a 10 game injury waiting to happen. Unless another big is coming back in a trade, or we don't have to give up DMO, i'm not for it either.
Here are my thoughts in regards to trading for Dragic. The Rockets are playing a high stakes epic staredown game...waiting to see who is going to flinch first. The Suns are obviously looking for a lot in any trade involving Dragic. He has tremendous value to a contender, but the Rockets are basically the only title contender that is in need for an elite level PG. The ultimate buyer's market. The Rockets mightve flinched earlier and made the trade if Beverley was not doing what this team desperately needed, but Beverley's solid contribution as a starter has allowed Morey to get off the throttle. There hasnt been an immediate need to improve a position that seemingly is performing just fine at the moment. The defense is stout and the team has played well without this need for an elite level PG like a Rondo, Rubio or Dragic. This essentially is why Morey is waiting to see if the Suns will be willing to take a lesser offer by the Rockets for Dragic. If the Rockets were deperate for Dragic, he wouldve been in uniform. But something tells me that Morey "is the one who knocks." Finally, one last point of mention...The extension. Morey will not give away assets if what he is getting back could just leave without any value ...He is going to want a guarantee by Dragic that he will extend, especially if Morey is willing to mortgage a potential Lottery pick and an evolving 7 ft post player...
Leave the NOP pick along with Schved, Capela and Canaan on the table for Phoenix if they would like. Still leaves Jones+NY second rounder to find a legit backup center.
Disagree. We have a severe weakness with play making. Especially a play making pg. Bev could possibly be the starting pg on a championship team, but there's a lot of ifs to be added to that. If Harden keeps playing other worldly. If Dwight actually scores on post ups. If he keeps shooting 40%+ from 3. If he learns how to pass into the post to Dwight correctly. I don't see all of those things happening. This team needs one last upgrade: the point guard position.
I hope Durant comes back soon. With New Orleans and Phoenix both flirting with the playoffs, the NO draft pick won't have definite-lottery status, and Phoenix will be less inclined to make an in-season move.
So many different directions we could go, but I tend to agree that an upgrade at guard is the last significant addition. I'd like to have a true stretch 4, but I wouldn't want to give up the post defense DMo gives us. With the addition of Smith, another rim protector doesn't really seem necessary. Wish we had Mirotic.
I haven't seen it. Yet. Just cannot be optimistic of your insight. I wish, tho... BTW - - am I uniquely unsold about the probability of DG being traded, let alone here?
Good post, DaDa. Except for the minor part of having retained him while he was here as that was not a basketball decision, as per CW.
