J-Smoove starting with T-Jones coming off the bench is a lethal combination in my view. I love how Smith's athleticism fits in with our starting 5, and I really think Jones could destroy almost any team's bench.
No one is scared of Terrence Jones unless they are homeless. Which pretty much leaves Scottie Pippen in the mix but he has long since retired.
Smith played great played in control....He is better than Jones any body that knows basketball understands this
Not if D-Mo continues the post play and defense without fouling. Otherwise, maybe so. Early in the season, both guys were so bad Papa got some PF minutes and was better than both of them.
Dankush, give it up bro! Jones is alright... But he's not the player Josh Smith is at this point in his career. Smith is a better scorer, passer, defender, and rebounder (tho Jones is occasionally really good on the boards). If you think it's not debatable that jones is a better offinsive talant than Smith then I have nothing to say to you. You simply don't understand basketball if you believe that!
Jones is a small 6-9. Smith is closer to 6-10, he is much longer, and has a bigger frame. He is not making ish up. It looks like Jones will only be playing 10-15 minutes a night once he returns and he deserves more than that. At least injuries won't hurt as much.
I like how none of you can say anything other than "He's better" Do you not understand basketball? Do you not understand that jacking up a bunch of shots at 45% clip is not better in any sense? Please articulate your reasoning if you think otherwise and if you are just going to say he's better without any real response then don't bother.
Even if they lost? D mo and Dwight no showed. Without Josh Smith were lose this game. I like wins. Who cares about how many shots someone took if you win? Smh
TJones will probably end up becoming a very good NBA player, but he is still young and the Western Conference is a rough place to be for a slightly undersized PF who hasn't been through the rugged experience necessary to survive. JSmith brings that extra attitude and aggressiveness that Jones doesn't have yet, and Smith is a much better passer and especially defender especially within this dynamic roster where he can play different positions. I am a big fan of TJones but I can't see him playing a ton of minutes on a team build to contend this year. If Jones is only playing 10-15 mpg by the time playoff rolls around, it means we have a hell of a squad.
lol Before TJ got hurt he was showing major skills and looked to have improved defensively. Now at the end of the season he can come back healthy and rested and keep up the 4 spot scoring and defense against the 2nd team and he is golden. Dmo is a better post player I agree but we need him to play post up at the 5 spot. TJ is better perimeter player than Dmo.
Houston gets Josh Smith basically for free in mid season. This looks eerily similar to Rasheed Wallace to Pistons and Pau Gasol to the Lakers. This is the year for Rockets!
Jones is pretty legit, but I really can't count on him to be reliable at this point in his career I know for sure Smith will make a diffrence on defense on most days that said I think people are underselling Jones since he got injured, he was very good in the beginning of the season, rebounding and defending well as well as finishing at the rim as always
Yeah, but also look at the teams we played to start off. We honestly don't need scoring at the 4 spot. Defense and rebounding was needed and it's a improvement over both TJones and DMo for me. Scoring is just a plus.
Here is why: Smith is a better playmaker. Sure Jones can handle the ball, but he never gets anything out of it unless no one is under the rim and he is on the break. Smith can pass, and has good vision. He can drive and kick much better than he is given credit for. He averages 4.7 assists per game. Smith is an elite shot blocker and rim protector. Jones is good, nothing special. Smith is the better post defender. He will change those shots Aldridge shot over Jones at will last season in the playoffs. When you put the ball in his hands he can do something with it. The same can't be said about Jones who gets most of his points from crashing the boards and getting put backs. The problem is you are taking his Detroit numbers too seriously. Jones played hard in a Rockets uniform. Those numbers are hard-earned. Smith just got paid to play on a bad team. He was playing out of position at the 3 80% of the time because Detroit has so many bigs. I can go on, but it is getting late and you seem to convinced to change your mind.
I think we tend to underrate Josh Smith a little context: Smith is a hugely talented and versatile player. Jones was showing flashes of being the same or better player on offense, but defensively or as a passing big man? No way is he as good as Smith. The Rockets offense will limit Smith's opportunities for those mid range bricks and he's never played with talent at the level of Harden and Howard. We could be looking at something really special here and even moreso if Jones comes back healthy or is traded for another significant piece.
