Knee jerk thread. Howard was passive tonight but even at his worst nights, he still gives us decent production. Also, he carried us in the playoffs last year.....
How many times did Dwight get great position down low, only to be waved off by his guards, who have no idea how to feed the post? The amount of contact that teams get away with when guarding Dwight in comparison to the feather touch fouls he gets called for is disproportionate in the extreme. It gets discouraging… That being said…We won. Dwight hit 4 straight free throws in the clutch (so much for the mentally weak argument) and his rebounding and rim protection helps us even when his offensive game isn't there. Eat the Head Dwight haters…Eat the Head.
Dwight gotta bring it. Bottom line. If his offense isn't there then he needs to be strong enough mentally to take over on defense and rebounding.
Howard needs easy baskets in the paint in the first quarter to get his timing and confidence then he can play back to the basket and pick in roll for the duration of the game. Josh Smiths slashing in the paint will also help Dwight via rebounds and put backs
I don't think we utilize him correctly. I understand he has lost some athleticism, but him playing in the post shouldn't be the basis of his game. Going to have to discredit the Portland series as well seeing who was guarding him.
when dwight gets in foul trouble early, it's usually bad all night for him, doesn't really matter who it is.
It's because going to him is not smart, unless he is on his game. And yet they continue to go to him. He needs to attack the rim without the ball. Find open lanes and seems in the defense and take them. No one wants to step in front of him when he is charging to the basket. No player gets paid enough for that.
Dwight does struggle against bigger guys, except the ones with poor lateral movement like Robin Lopez. Deandre Jordan will always be a problem for him.
OP makes a good point. He also picked up some really stupid fouls tonight. Dwight is what he is. He is never going to be an offensive force against tough defense, but thankfully he is our defensive anchor (he just needs to lay off the stupid fouls so he can stay on the floor)!
This is a problem and now we finally have someone who is tall and long enough to make the post entry pass in Josh Smith. Howard is catching the ball out in spots where he is ineffective. Only Dream (and Yao when healthy) can dominate like he did from those spots. Brewer is also long enough to make the overhead bass, and D-Mo is smart enough to know where the ball should be thrown in order for him to get it. No one else should do it imo.
