By saying all this, RL might actually be boosting Elba's chances of playing Bond.

Would the powers that be, be under more pressure to choose Elba, when it's all said and done? If Elba isn't chosen, a lot of people will point to this particular piece of media as a possible reason why.

    1. Idris Elba is a serious badass, and would make a great 007
    2. Ian Fleming was a serious racist (read the books)
    3. Therapists for $1000, Alex
    4. If it's not Scottish it's crap
    5. ???
    6. Profit

The producers and screenwriters have figured out the formula that works these days. Doesn't matter really who the actor is, as long as the script is good.

Rush doesn't think there should be black quarterbacks so he definitely isn't going to go for a black James Bond.

But I haven't bothered to watch a James Bond flick since Roger Moore played the role... I may check this one out.

    Judi Dench as M

That is pretty much the period at the end of the sentence stating that changing these characters up isn't a bad thing.

Also, Naomie Harris was the sexiest Moneypenny since about 1963.

As others noted Lazenby left on his own. Anyway other Aussies have been considered for Bond, in the 80's Sam Neil was highly regarded to replace Roger Moore.

Also Lazenby wasn't the only one and done Bond. David Niven was in the 1967 Casino Royal. His role also hinted at that "James Bond" is a code name and not an actual name so it might not be that much of a retcon to have Idris Elba as adopting the code name "James Bond".

Good points. I agree that it wouldn't have to be much of a retcon to have a black Bond and now that this has been leaked, I think it kind of has to happen now.

I forgot about that and they were certainly some petty and regressive comments for a nationally televised (sports) news broadcast. However, both the talk show format and film production and consumption are more qualitative and subjective.

Another thing about Craig as Bond that makes him so good.

They went back to Bond being the killing machine; not relying on cute gadgets and toys.

If he can pull of the accent, I think Kevin Hart would be an amazing bond.

Let's remake "Shaft" with Woody Allen in the lead role...

Better yet, let's keep remaking it with white actors for next thirty years and call it every cop movie ever.

    Whatever.

Rush is entitled to his opinion like everyone else.

Times change. I have always pictured Bond as some suave UK white man, but if they think a black actor can pull it off, have at it.

It really isn't a big deal. Will put extra pressure on the actor they choose if he isn't the stereotypical Bond but that is there call.

Rush is discussing this because he has an agenda, like everything else he does. He wants to get conservative old school white people shaking their heads saying "see we are losing it all."

I love how changing the character from white to black is equivalent to handicapping the character.

You don't have a valid point. Woody Allen isn't capable of playing anything other than a nebbishy person. There's no way he could play a character like Shaft. Not because of his ethnicity, but because of his personality. No one would find it believable.

Idris Elba is more than capable of playing a character like James Bond. There's nothing about the character other than skin color that he couldn't pull off flawlessly.

No, I do not think you have a legitimate point. I just thought you were being sarcastic.
