    rogower,

    the general premise of your trade makes sense except for a couple points.

    1. In this scenario I suspect that PHX would be much more interested in bringing Joe Johnson back than in bringing in DWill. They would be able to acquire JJ by simply adding Mitchell's contract into the deal. And IT, Bledsoe, JJ makes a lot more sense out there than IT, Bledsoe, DWill.

    2. I don't think Houston is interested in taking on PJ Tucker's deal. That would have to be shuffled off to Brooklyn or somebody else.

    3. I suspect that Goran and Zoran are going to go out together. I don't think PHX wants Zoran without Goran.

    1. Phoenix must acquire Mitchell and then waive him themselves (his salary is non-guaranteed) in order to create the requisite cap space.

    Also, Phoenix may prefer Joe Johnson, but it's Deron Williams' contract that Brooklyn intends to dump here. Plus, it's the nice/cheap/young assets (Plumlee, Capela, Johnson, the Pelicans pick) that Phoenix is really after. Phoenix is accumulating these sorts of assets in the hopes of making a big quantity-for-quality trade later on down the line.

    2. Advanced stats love P.J. Tucker, and besides, he must be thrown into the deal in order to make it work. Tucker's contract is an excellent bang-for-your-buck contract. Advanced stats say that Tucker is a HUGE upgrade over Corey Brewer and a good starting caliber SF.

    3. I tried to throw in Zoran but the numbers do not work. Or at least I could not make them work.

    One thing I failed to mention is that Houston may make yet ANOTHER big trade on 2/19 (trade deadline), when the expiring contracts of Corey Brewer (technically it's a 2015-16 player option but Brewer will decline it) and Alexey Shved become trade eligible. Houston may be able to package these two contracts with Terrence Jones and/or Isaiah Canaan for the stretch four that this team still lacks. This player would inherit Terrence Jones' minutes and probably a chunk of Josh Smith's. OR maybe we see these players packaged for Al Horford instead. Josh Smith may be the starting PF for a little while but not necessarily after 2/19. I think that Morey would like to do better than Josh Smith and that Smith's acquisition is more about making Dwight Howard happy and generating "Houston is going for it, I want to play for them!" buzz than about anything else. Josh Smith probably is not this team's long term solution at PF. Most Rockets fans are not realizing this, it seems.

    What do you guys think about a trade for I. Thomas instead?
    Given that PBev is a great fit with Harden, what we really need is a great 6th-man that can create off the bench. I think it's preferable for the Suns to give up Thomas instead of Dragic or Bledsoe.

    Brewer isn't going anywhere at the deadline. He's too valuable to what we want to do which is increase our transition effectiveness both ways. Trade pieces are Kostas, Shved, the youngsters, and possibly Terry if we need Terry's salary to get a bigger deal done.

    As far as Smith not starting after 2/19.....won't happen unless he's injured or he's such a jerk that we release him. He's going to start the balance of the season. We could acquire a stretch-4 but at this point he wouldn't start. Rockets aren't giving Smoove the starting 4 spot just until 2/19.

    Advanced stats also love Isaiah Thomas, and his contract is excellent. I think Houston trades for either Dragic or Thomas, and that the trade is imminent (probably by the end of December). Houston would not need to give up as much to get Thomas, either. He makes more sense to me but I am not sure what Morey's, or Phoenix's, preference is here. Phoenix may be more reluctant to give Dragic the monster contract that he is after than fans realize. Dragic is about to get PAID. And he turns 29 in May. Do the rebuilding, up-and-coming Suns want to give a 29-year-old guard $80-$100 mil? That seriously clogs up the cap.

    Anyway, this is why I think Phoenix wants to trade Dragic, not Thomas. I could be wrong.

    2 smaller trades before the deadline:

    1.) Capela+Johnson+NY pick to Milwaukee for Henson

    2.) when both players get healthy, T-Jones to NY for Shumpert

    Howard, Henson, Dorsey
    Smith, DMo, Black
    Ariza, Brewer, Papa
    Harden, Shumpert, Terry
    Beverley, Shved, Canaan

    at the deadline: Papa+Shved+NOP pick for Dragic

    Howard, Henson, Dorsey
    Smith, DMo, Black
    Ariza, Brewer
    Harden, Shumpert, Terry
    Dragic, Beverley, Canaan

    this is a team that'll go real deep in the playoffs

    canaan + capela for prigioni + 1st round pick

    prigioni would automatically be the best entry passer on this team.

    Philly IN - KPAP, Dorsey, Black, a second round pick

    PHX IN - Jones, Canaan, NOP Pick and maybe Capela

    HOU IN - Dragic, AK47, Henry Sims

    Leaves one possibly two roster spot to fill.

    I haven't kept up with this thread so I am sure I am missing some ideas about dragic but I have my own trade to propose that wouldn't hurt us too badly while also providing Phoenix with incentive .

    Dragic for Terry, Canaan , NOP pick , and jones if necessary .

    We play it like this

    Dragic (18) / bev (30)
    Harden (34) dragic (14)
    Ariza (30) / brewer or Pap (18)
    Dmo (18)/ smith (30)
    Dwight (33) dmo (15)

    Hopefully Phoenix does it . If jones comes back then he can fight for some frontcourt rotation minutes. He could get 10 of smiths mins four of Dmo's and 1 of Dwight's and get 15 min a game . Smith still has 20 min a game and dmo has 29 while Dwight has 32 . Not bad either . Getting dragic makes us champ material because how he can provide partial insurance for James and bev if either misses time . In game or due to injury. If jones plays really well he can take another 2 of Dwight's and 3 of Dmo's . We could have all bigs getting 20+ mins a game with Dwight getting 30 , dmo 26 , smith and jones getting 20 . While the names getting mins might change , the distribution never should . This will keep bigs in rhythm.

    Rockets won't be trading for IT. He is getting paid 7mil to be a backup for Rockets? Not happening.

    The Knicks are going nowhere anyway ... http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n4sntgb

    Rockets:
    * IN: Schumpert (SG), Jason Smith (C/PF), NY future 2nd round draft pick(s)
    * OUT: Papa (SF), Capela (C), Dorsey (PF), Canaan (PG)

    Knicks:
    * IN: Papa (SF), Capela (C), Dorsey (PF), Canaan (PG)
    * OUT: Schumpert (SG), Jason Smith (C/PF), future 2nd round draft pick(s)

    Rockets line-up
    * PG: Bev/Terry/Shved
    * SG: Harden/Shumpert/Johnson
    * SF: Ariza/Brewer
    * PF: Josh Smith/T-Jones/Black
    * C: Howard/D-Mo/Jason Smith

    Why for the Rockets? More defense with Shumpert. Jason Smith is a decent 7 footer with midrange jumper. Both have expiring contracts, so we keep 'flexibilty'. And we clear a roster spot for Josh Smith.

    Why for the Knicks? Adding very good young talent with Papa, Canaan and Capela.

    if we can get Phoenix to make one trade with the promise of making another right after:

    Shved and NOP 1st for Zoran and Plumlee

    Canaan, Jones, Black, 2nd rounders for Goran

    Why would they give up any pick for the trash offer you listed in the first place?

    *Perhaps we can sub Shved for Papa around the trade deadline (can only be flipped alone right now)

    Include the NO pick to BKN and they've got much needed rebuild/young assets -> Maybe we can shake loose Teletovic as well?

    PHX fills a huge need (when healthy)

    Rox get stacked

    1. You're stealing my ideas.

    2. PHX ain't going to send out Len and they don't have to send out Len to get Lopez.

    3. Trade would probably be something along the lines of Jarrett Jack into PHX's cap space...then Goran, Zoran, Ennis out for Lopez. BRK gets Ennis. With us sending a pick or two back to PHX (not Pels pick).
