I'm with you DaDakota. I'm all about DMo's improvement. And I'd bet McHale is too. We can do this. We need depth. Cheer for it.
Josh Smith will be a very interesting test case on nurture vs. nature. He is a natural chucker with no concept of efficiency. The Rockets OTOH is the very definition of optimized shot selection. While players like Delfino and Terry have adjusted very well, one can point out that getting them to jack up 3s probably didn’t require convincing. They’re already known as bombers from the outside. Whereas getting Josh Smith to only take corner 3s and in the paint would require much more discipline. I think a good compromise would be how Barkley played while he was on the Rocket. The Rockets let him shoot a few 3s every game, but not so much to be detrimental to the team.
fortunately we can now stop bickering over what smith will or wont provide and just watch the results.
Jeez i didnt realize Smith was bad at FTs... That sucks... Still exited to see the results of our new team!
Smith will be a beast down low with Howard in the 4th quarter. Mark my words because I'm calling it right now.
As someone who has followed Josh Smith, I agree. He mostly played as PF. The thing about the Rockets is, they actually are okay with 3s. They don't like long 2s. In this sense, the Rockets look at Josh Smith differently from other teams. They'll actually likely take a 3pt shooter in the low 30s(our current PFs both shoot 3s in that range). They won't take someone who makes 35% of their 18 footers. Regardless of where he stands, just look at Harden and Howard's usage and look at the guys on the Pistons. Not all 1st and 2nd options are created equal. Especially not when 1st option is Harden. Believe me. If I were a Pistons fan, I would hate his guts too. But we've seen many times how circumstances change player production. I like SVG, so I do wish you guys the best. That said, you're not going to minimize my excitement until Josh Smith decides to wave off both Harden and Howard so he can take a 20 footer. If he does that, I will definitely switch to your way of thinking. Until then, I'm expecting a milder Smith that puts up ~10 FGAs of which most are in the paint and still do all the other little stuff that makes him so good.
2 way players? Tell that to Adelman and JVG. We have a collection of good 2 way players already. They might be better on Defense but they can score some. Josh Smith is a 16 ppg guy or was not long ago. Jeezus. That is not a 1 way player.
Good input from a Pistons fan. While josh may have played PF i find it hard to believe that he could play PF on a team with Drummond and Monroe. Did they not all 3 play at the sAme time? I am sure they did. Who plays the SF position in that case? Common sense tells you it is just a terrible fit with essentially 3 Pf's or PF/C's on the floor together all working against each other.
Can we still trade Ariza,DMO, TJones and a pick or so for Carmelo Anthony? If so we would be best team in the NBA!
I can easily imagine them playing Josh and one of them as starters and the other one backing up both of them at 4 and 5 just like now DMO will be doing...
 Can you imagine Smith,Melo,Harden and Howard ? The locker room will explode. I doubt they can co-exist even for a day.
