You do realize that the guy was starting in Beverley's absence before he went down with an injury, and has been back for only a few games thus far right? Hasn't shown much potential? Where were you when Beverley went down and Canaan played heavy minutes for a number of games? The guy had some really solid games against Sacramento and Golden state. I'm not saying the guy was all world but given the circumstances in his second year as a 2nd round pick with little floor time in his rookie year, he's at least shown that he's an NBA talent with legit NBA range shooting, and some potential all around NBA scoring ability (in a couple years). I think alot of teams would love to have him as their backup to groom for a few years. He's shown enough to garnish attention for GM's who are paying attention. However, he's not the gold-mine of a gem asset that is going to net the Rockets Kevin Durant or something like some fan like BBHollic will make it out to seem. However, if your paying attention, he's shown some really solid NBA level talent when given the opportunity and when his head is on straight and focused. He deserves a little more credit than your making it out to seem.
Not to mention, he was the only reason we were still in the Clippers game, before Chris Paul decided to take him out.
Lol these idiots talking down on cannonball are the same idiots that are dumbfounded by DMo's emergence. No vision. Unfortunately Mchale is almost blind.
Playoff game...bev gets hurt. Who do you want in the game....Canaan or nick Johnson? Honestly, I like and want to keep both.
Morey isn't giving away either guy. Unless we get real value back. At this point I wish Morey would just cut Dorsey and waive the white flag on Ray Lewis with a basketball.
Black, big dick nick and cannonball are all rotation quality players that I don't want to give up on. Capella is a project with serious potential based on his elite athleticism. Dorsey is the odd man out. I still don't know what caused Morey to give Dorsey two years guaranteed. Dorsey would have accepted a 1 year guaranteed contract.
Canaan has some skills. But a recent 2nd round pick who hasn't played enough to prove how good or not good he is just don't gather much in a trade. You are certainly not getting a 1st round pick for such a player.
Then you don't sell low on a guy you believe will perform when the opportunity presents itself. Dorsey is the odd man out I hope.
The only one I don't want traded is Canaan. Black and Dorsey are relatively interchangeable, Johnson can't hit threes (or layups, for that matter), Capela is a looong term project. Canaan has shown that he can create his own shot, knock down the 3 ball, be a spark off the bench, and he's also made strides on defense. Finally, Canaan is like Dwight's little brother. Best to keep your star happy.
Dallas will not be able to claim Talik Black if Houston is forced to waive him, someone higherup on the waiver priority list (inverse order of the standings) will scoop him up first. The Sixers will scoop that dude up in a heartbeat. All teams know this, too, so it is conceivable that somebody gives Houston a second round pick for Black. I believe Morey's preference (assuming he cannot make a deal for someone like Goran Dragic which frees up a roster spot) is to trade Isaiah Canaan for a projected high (#31 to #40 overall) second round pick. You have Nick Johnson, you have Jason Terry, now you have Alexey Shved, plus you are presumably trying to trade for Dragic... you really do not need Canaan. Black, however, can still help you, as Terrence Jones is still out, plus you may end up trading Jones, hell, you may end up trading both Jones and Donatas Motiejunas, so Black may continue to help you. Black is such a bargain at his price, too. And it's not like you will ever get equal value for the guy via trade. Morey loves these guys who can be picked up off the scrap heap, paid less than $1 mil, and play meaningful minutes in your rotation, like Black, and Patrick Beverley. Great for cap flexibility and roster building.
If all Morey wants is a high second rounder for Canaan he should have the deal done by now. Canaan's too good and there's too many teams that know it.
Canaan represents the ideology from last season: Great offensive skills, especially from three. Not so much defensively. Johnson represents the present ideology: Defense first, tough attitude. I can see how Johnson is above Canaan in the rotation because of the change in team ideology. Johnson brings it on defense every night, or at least tries every night. It really frustration to watch him miss layup after three point shot but I can see him being a major part of this team in a year or so. Simply put, he is a player McHale loves. That being said, I don't want to see either go unless the offer is just too good to pass up. I think Canaan can be a good piece to our current team if he can prove he can bring defensive intensity every night. Is gonna be Dorsey who will get traded. My money is on another Hinkie - Morey connection. Dorsey plus cash for a heavily conditional 2nd round pick (55-60 range). If not, sorry Black. Hope he clears waivers and Rio Grande can pick him up. Capela is a different story altogether. He is a project upon project. He is so raw but has the potential to be really good. It's a shame he wanted to come now instead of stay in Europe because right now, we are paying him on pure potential and he is taking up roster space. If he stayed, we probably wouldn't have this problem.
Canaan is the most complete of those players right now IMO. as in, someone goes down in the playoffs he could step up and fill in the easiest. I will be bummed if Morey moves Canaan unless it's for Dragic or something.
Lol at typical clueless clutchfans falling in love with lower level talent acting like they are superstars. Cannon is a decent backup who can be a spark off the bench. That doesn't make him worth a first round pick. Unfortunately this board is full of people who think they have vision like you. These are the same idiots that were dumbfounded when we traded Daniels for Brewer. Brewer has already contributed more in one game than Daniels did all year.
I don't like the idea of trading Canaan if there isn't a clear path to upgrade the PG position with a shot creator. But Canaan isn't going to yield a 1st. We were all just recently talking about trying to acquire Wright and how Ainge is going to look for a first but will probably need to settle for a 2nd...and wrights impact is miles ahead of canaan especially as a big in a league where bigs are a rarity compared to pgs.
Trade Capela for a good 2nd or cut smith or dorsey. Don't see what all the commotion is about. None of the guys mentioned will ever play.
