If we had to cut anyone, it's Black. Assuming he clears waivers, his salary would only count as $175K against the cap.

Agreed. I can just see there being at least 1 or 2 games when the starters are struggling and he comes in w/ that calm demeanor and hits a couple of big shots. Still don't want to see canaan go he played really well when bev was hurt

Why are y'all arguing about who should be traded?
Just because all those guys are on the market doesn't mean Morey or opposing them value them equally, so arguing about how should be traded is fairly pointless, given that you don't know what kind of deals are out there.

It's all about finding some value -- which is obviously a lot easier when you put five guys out there, instead of just one or two.

man, i would trade black+dorsey for sims in a heartbeat

sims is a solid rebounder, can finish around the rim, has a decent mid range, and can make FTs

he's long so that will add to the athleticism of our front court

would be awesome if morey could get it done..

You're really exaggerating Canaan's defense. His Defensive Dashboard on NBA.com shows he's holding opponents to -0.6 % points from their average FG%. Terry is at 2.3.

Capela MIGHT be good 3-4 years from now. This team needs help now, not a wasted roster spot.

Dorsey at least can defend now and then. I think he had one game where he had 9 rebounds and 5 steals. He is terrible on offense but so is Capela.

Black is a really good offensive rebounder. Terrible otherwise on offense but see above.

That leaves Capela out. A high second round pick might be the best Morey can get.

I doubt Johnson or Canaan or going anywhere anytime soon.

Rockets probably wants to give Black or Dorsey a new home. Least they could do for those guys.

Capela? Trying to see if they could get a pick for him although most likely would try to offer him by the trade deadline. He should have been patient and stayed in Europe.

Like when Morey & Martin sent my daughter an autographed Jersey...then traded him for James Harden.

    Thank Goodness Dwight wears #12!

I agree, and the fact that the Rox are going to be so stacked with big means they have the luxury of bringing him along slowly.

But the Sixers aren't looking to get better - just keep rolling assets until they get a franchise level player. How much PT can sims get with two younger high lotto pick bigs in front of him(Noel & Embid)?

...on the other hand - how does a 6'10" player get so few rebounds? That's troubling.

Think about it this way. If you were a bleeding heart fan (say, a Clutchfan) for another team, then who on the Rockets would you be happy about them giving away? To me, in order it would be: 1. Canaan, 2. Capella, 3. Black, 4. Johnson, 5. Dorsey.

Canaan has flat out damaged some other teams this year. He is a bulkier Aaron Brooks.

Capella is basically Serge Ibaka in his rookie year, with all the uncertainty and potential built in and none of the foresight to see what he actually became.

Black is a four-year NCAA player, now a rookie with an NBA body who has shown the ability to rebound and finish with touch. Basically he gives you everything Dorsey does but with the potential (and rookie wage scale) of a 23yr old, instead of a 31yr old.

Nick Johnson is an undersized 3-and-D guy, like Courtney Lee but shorter, with the pedigree of coming from an NBA family, so you know you won't have to worry about his work ethic. Still, the limited upside puts him at a fair value for where he was drafted--right about the high second round.

Finally, Joey Dorsey is Joey Dorsey. You know what you get with him, which is decent defense, NFL athleticism from a 6'7 body, but still a 40% FT rate and the occasional boneheaded play which gives me brainfreeze when I realize just how old he is. The only reason we kept Dorsey over Adrien was the 2yr contract; it would have been painful admitting that we would incur a sunk cost before the first year even BEGAN.

Now that we have Josh Smith coming, though? Enough with the tiptoeing around the CBA. Let's go Daryl. Make the right roster move. My nomination is that we waive Dorsey.
