Ummm, you get an agreement before hand that he will sign an extension or re-sign. Didn't think it was something I needed to establish. I assumed any mention of trading for an unrestricted f.a star, would have this fact be self explanatory.
No matter if this move works or not its nice to see vet players choosing to come to Houston for a change.
I like how ESPN fatty Brian W. is saying Smith's bad 3s and long twos are a terrible fit for Houston's offense after Smith was quoted saying he will at a defensive edge and paint points. Sure, he was a terrible SF and #1 option, but why do they think he is like some crazed r****d hellbent on being the go to guy at all costs? Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but I am confident in the leadership of this team and think he will know his role and stay within it. If this works out I wonder if he would stay around for ~MLE the next couple of years.
Talk is cheap. Because he IS a terrible SF and his level of play over the past few years confirms this fact. It's unrealistic to expect someone with his track record at this stage in his career to magically change for the better at the snap of one's fingers or simply because he has been traded (ie. dumped).
IMO wishing for JO'N is dangerous. Was last year his healthiest in 5 or so? He is destined to disappoint IMO again. Besides, JO'N will not bang defensively anymore but will be helping with O, preferably shooting from 10-15'.
If he went to Dallas the narrative would be a lot different. I know rockets don't get a lot of press but I'm surprised this signing isn't getting a couple mentions instead of scrolling at the bottom of the screen. I mean, if smith is good for the rockets that starting five and bench is pretty great.
Yes so. I'm talking about Dallas Fans on Dallas Forums on this acquisition. Most if not all of them wanted Smith but are saying "It's cool if he goes to Houston because he could only work here. He's poison in Houston." Just like before the season they were all assured that Parsons would be some superstar player. Before the season. Not now. My comparison is saying Dallas fans don't know chit, their basis that Smith is not going to work here is solely because he signed here.
I agree, if he went to Dallas everyone would be signing Cuban's praises. It's ridiculous how when the Rockets make a move everybody is quick to say it won't work. Great move by Morey. Low risk high reward. This could truly end up as the signing that takes us to that next level.
Well duh, obv JSmoove is a horrible SF, he has a broken 3 pt shot and below average mid-range game. The good thing is the Rox aren't dumbasses and won't play him at the SF spot, he'll play at the PF slot alongside Dwight. IMHO this is why he will fit in with the current Rox team, he can leak out and dunk all over opponents on the break and then he hang hang around the mid-range J on offense to provide spacing for both DMo and Dwight. Sure his mid-range J isn't great, but with Dwight/JSmith/Bev/Harden and 3Za being above average to amazing rebounders chances are we will get the reb back anyway. More importantly, with a lineup up of Dwight/Smith/Ariza/Harden/Bev I expect Rox to be one of the best defensive starting 5s in league, it will probably compete with the Celtics defense with KG, Prime Perkins, Rondo and Pierce.
I bet Thibby would've loved coaching this team. SOOO much defense. But its probably good he is because Harden would be on the injury report every night.
I was on the skeptics list However I just watched a ton of Condensed NBA League Pass replays of Josh Smith games this season Now I confirm - He is going to do wonders on this Rockets team, his game is exactly what this team needs and takes us up 2 levels- we are absolutely championship caliber Mark this post because all the naysayers are going to look like fools after the first game
Honestly I don't see why people aren't making a BIGGER deal about this. They act like Smith is coming off of injury or some crazy suspension. You really can't look at his work in Detroit. You have to go back to ATL and being a 4. This was so lucky..... Not a year and a half ago we were entertaining paying this guy 15. million. There was a time where I probably would have. I think Smith and Howard are going to be extremely successful together in the front court.
