I've never really been a josh smith fan but it's a low risk move. However, his shooting % from Fg, ft, and 3 point line is absolutely horrid. I've read a lot of Pistons fans posts on realgm and they say smith is the worst player on the team. Can't shoot, play defense and is not as athletic. Not a ringing endorsement, IMO.
And remember he struck out on Dwight before getting him here and nearly scored Bosh after failing the first time with the iPad idea. Morey seems to get his man eventually if things don't happen on the first try.
I wouldn't look at Josh Smith's stint in Detroit as predictive to how he will do in Houston. The Detroit situation was doomed from the start with the personnel. And obviously Piston fans are angry about what happened. In Houston, Smith's strengths will be utilized. Smith will be a PF and not a SF.
Welcome to H-Town J Smoove, your shot selection is not Smooth WhatSoEver, but he is a Big who is going to help D12 down there on the Block/Post!!!!! He is solid Defender and Rebounder and underrated passer. #RedNation #Rockets #Pursuit
well the nice thing is it is such a low-risk move that benching him or even releasing him wouldn't be much of an issue. He went to the Pistons with the expectation that he would be their #1 or #2 option--in that he has miserably failed. With the Rockets he will be the #3-#5th option, hopefully not handling the ball and only cleaning up misses, driving in the lane, or OCCASIONALLY spotting up for corner 3s (Thats it! No other 3s from anywhere else. EVER). If he doesn't follow the game plan, then give DMO more minutes at his spot. I see this more as a win-win. Who cares if he is disgruntled about playing time? its Harden and Dwights team. And any of DMO, Beverly, Ariza , Brewer (??) ( shoot even Cannaan) are capable of having big scoring nights. Smith will not be a go to guy in Houston that way he was supposed to be in Detroit. He's there for his defense and rim-jobs. I don't think Morey or McHale will care if he 'demands' more minutes. Make him the starter, sure, but then bench his ass the second he isn't following the game plan and give DMO more minutes. If his attitude affects the team, c ya!
Why trade anyone? Lets just see how this team plays now. I know people want Dragic but whose going to pay all these guys? We need some role players...
Morey delivered on his promise to Howard upon his signing more than a year ago that he will improve this team.
The Rockets will have "Non-Bird" rights to Smith, meaning they could only offer him up to roughly $2.5 million next summer without having to use either cap room or the MLE.
And he is still getting paid the rest of his current contract with the Pistons, right? So hopefully this plays out well and he doesn't care about getting an extra million or so in a losing situation...
Can someone explain the origin of his nickname, what it means, and why it is misspelled? Talking about: J Smoove Thanks!
Anyone notice Smith is 55%! From corner 3 this year? He will buy into our philosophy and excell. If we keep DMo in any future trade, and just get rid of our 3 1s 7 2s, jones Capela johnson Canaan (who we should keep) and any fodder cap, we will be set for 2 title runs at minimum. Remember, Terry+Shved+Dorsey + those mentioned above gets you near 17 mil in a trade. Flexibility has us with a shot to trade for ANYONE.
One thing I love about Morey is he doesn't care about the whole choir boy routine. If you can play Morey will go after you.
Bima, did we not get to use both years at the BLE? Meaning we have him for two? Or did we just choose to not?
I know is sounds like a NO but Could another team SIGN HIM and TRADE HIM back to us . . .. seems like it would be weird to do . . . . but Say if someone wanted D-Mo . .. we could say ok . .but you have to sign JSmoove to X Amount and trade him back to us I suspect if everyone is happy . .. they could get 'creative' to find him some money to keep him happy Rocket River
1) Also, can we trade him by the deadline? (if yes, are we trading the exception or his Detroit contract) 2) Can he sign a regular contract on top of the one he is earning from the Pistons? Or only a vet-exception since he is still being paid his initial contract Thanks
