Any trade to unload Black or Dorsey could not involve any incoming players, i.e., would need to be for a pick (second round I imagine) or cash, right? Not sure how the remaining TPE would play into this, but if it does then would it be easier to unload Black than Dorsey, given their salaries?

Really hope neither gets cut on Christmas eve.

I'll be majorly pissed if this turns into some dragged out decision.

Damn, I didn't think about that. Now I really hope Morey works out a trade because that would be terrible.

Why don't you be real? Please enlighten me, how is getting a 2M player a high risk?

I'm one of the biggest "numb nut" haters on this board, I posted about how Melo would suck if we got him, I ranted against Smith when it looked like the Rox were gonna pair him with Howard and I even bagged on Cousins coming out and predicted Utah made the right move by getting Favors instead of him (lol ok I was way wrong on that but the dude was the fattest guy in draft history). And I even ranted against Dallas and told everyone who would listen getting Rondo would make them suck (1 for 2 ain't bad).

But I'm also realistic, when you can get a talent like Josh Smith for 2M as 1 year trial you do it no questions asked. This is the definition of low risk high reward, if he doesn't work out then you cut him and move on, 2M is no skin off the team's nose. There is no gamble here, I'd release Shved so he can play in Europe or whatever faster than DHoward can call up Smith and tell him to come over.

Anybody who doesn't want to give JSmooth a try for 2M and 1 year is just plain wrong, that's all there is to it.

If one does get cut today it would be less messed up if it WAS Dorsey. He has a guaranteed contract and will still get paid even if we do waive him. Plus he's a old vet he knows this is a business.

I fail to see how you managed to convey any risk here.

I agree. But the Mavs traded away the player with the highest O-Rating on the team with decent playing time in Brandon Wright. The Rockets will be moving Tarik Black or Joey Dorsey out of the rotation for Josh Smith.

    Irrelevant comparisons are irrelevant.

Further proof that if the Rockets don't pick up Josh Smith, those are the kind of player they would instead be choosing from.

You've only helped make the argument of why the Rockets have so little risk involved in this signing.

That's only because teams generally give a pick to have another team take said player off their hands. Pistons simply decided to eat money instead of giving another team their 1st round picks. Which makes sense as those picks will be really high for several years.

But if you include amnesties, there have been quite a few comps for Josh smith. The only difference is that the Pistons used the stretch provision which only somewhat offset the cap loss. And if you do that, the type of players that have been amnestied: Scola, Boozer, Micheal Finley, Chris Anderson, Blache...

Using the stretch provision, the Pistons effectively gained half of Smith's salary in capspace for the next two years. So they did gain a benefit in salary similar to the effect of the amnesty provision.

Jason Terry: "I like the chemistry. I like the pieces. Possibly a big piece could be coming here in the next couple of days." Then the roundtable guys stop him from saying anything else lol. :)

Not wanting to sign Josh Smith for $2mill is ridiculous. I get you don't like him but you can't pass that up.
I hate the Xbox one as I think it is inferior to the PS4 but if someone offered me an Xbox one for $50, I'm taking that deal no questions asked. We're getting a player lower than cost of market.

If there were no risks regarding Smith, he wouldn't have fallen into our laps. Let's just be thankful we may have found our starting PF.

Sign him and work out the kinks later.

Again, I am not against starting him. I just don't think we should guarantee him a starting spot before seeing how he gels with the team.

Having boxscore productivity is not the same as helping the team win. Smith has not been playing with two star players on the same team. His teams always relied on him to score and rebound. The Rockets are very different.

BTW, I don't think there's a lot of so-called "anti-smith" sentiment here. Just DudeWah and a few posters who are against getting him. Most people believe it's pretty much a no-brainer because it's almost free. The "anti" thing are mostly toward being cautious--"let's wait and see how he works out" sentiment.

Our system won't change at all. He'll be a stretch four

Rondo changed how the Mavs play.

    Three games in.....

You can see how Rondo ruined that team.

It is no bueno! Ball movement is weak, teams are sagging off Rondo, and Dirk is getting double teamed more.

Chandler Parsons was averaging 25ppg his last 5 before the Rondo trade.

After the trade, he is averaging 9......

That's an absolute nightmare scenario. The 2nd worst 3 point shooter in NBA history with at least 1000 attempts being a "stretch four".....yikes.

Anyway, I'm still feeling bad about this but I've chanted "In Morey we trust" several dozen times in an effort to come to terms with it.
