Jones is a horrible defender. Smith has a higher defensive rating than anyone on the Rockets. In fact, Smith has the 15th highest defensive rating on the entire league this season.
I remember one season in ATL Where he completely stopped taking 3's because the coaches convinced him it was a detriment. So smith through the all star break only took 1 3pter up until that point. He's not this damn chucked you see in Detroit. And at the sf position which he was playing in Detroit he was definitely going to look to score.
First, you're comparing opinion to fact. It's your opinion that Josh Smith is awful on offense, it's the opinion of most that he's mediocre. Yes, there is a difference. And there is a difference in the way you present something- you can say Josh Smith is not good on offense, or you can say that he's laughably awful- just like I can say, your opinions seem to be a bit off, or I could say you're being an absolute, complete imbecile by using obviously hyperbolic language and exaggerated examples. There is a difference.
If you look at the numbers, you wouldn't be trying to argue that it's "opinion". That said, it's pretty clear that the homer glasses are on now that he's almost certain to become a Rocket tomorrow so I'll let it drop. We'll all see for ourselves soon enough. The closest the Rockets have had to Josh Smith's offensive ineptitude this season was Francisco Garcia but that was a small sample. The closest we've had to Smith's poor offense that played at least 20 games for us was Ish Smith back in 2011
With JSmith being the 3rd-5th scoring option in a completely different system with different teammates, that would be fine. And considering all the good things he brings to the table; rim protection, fast breaks, $2mil, even more fine. Oh he's a cancer in the locker room? Where's your proof?
My 2 cents added, since he already answered JSmith NOW is BAD/AWFUL on offense. Theres been couple years where he was mediocre/passable on offense, one decent. But its gotten too far back to where he's been even mediocre. He's been BAD the past 2-3 seasons. So its about speculating or hoping the JSmith offense you'd get. He COULD be mediocre with vhange of scenery. Though trends say he's consistently BAD with little sign of him being better. Can get away with 1 Omer Asik zero on offense, but its like its going back to the 2007 Shane Battier, Chuck Hayes, Rafer Alston Rockets. 2 flawed offensive stars with 1 dimensional role players (though much better depth now)
That's an insult to this team. Your comparing Battier to Ariza, DMO to Hayes, Alston to Bev? Please. This team would wipe the floor with or without Josh Smith.
Good post. OKC and LAC give us trouble with there athletic fronts. Time to step in the same weight class.
there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't take a chance on J-Smoove. I'm sure he will be a Rocket by tomorrow.
I know the comparisons been made, but I really feel like Rasheed Wallace on the Blazers is a good one. The talent and athleticism is undeniable, but he's also not a very disciplined guy, not what you would call a self-starter. On a team with a bad culture he can appear to be part of the problem, but stick him in a locker room of veteran professionals and he will fall in line and may even become one of the biggest contributors. And you can't tell me that Josh Smiths ego is bigger than Rasheed's. And again the major difference btw Smith and Rondo, beyond the contract, is that Smith didn't tear his ACL. We should make the gamble on him.
