Give me Durant at 4.9 million and I might as well do it. I am kidding but yeah I sure did not expect Smith would be waived, be available and Morey still be interested. This is a once in 2-3 years kind of deal
Again...knocking me doesn't make your point any better. I don't play NBA2K, or base my observations on highlights...or even ppg. There's no convincing you, or even rationalizing w you at this point. I respect your opinion, but I can't see the logic behind it. Let's let the man's play speak for him if he's signed. Have a great day!!
The ****? You must be trolling. As far as the name change thing goes, it makes absolutely no sense. No one cares what his name is.
To clarify what I mean by that, no one is getting excited based on the player that Josh Smith is, they are getting excited about the player that Josh Smith once was. His past reputation (name) is the only reason people think he's any good at all.
My question for DD is, would getting JSmith and trading for Dragic and losing Dmo...would you consider that a "rob Peter to pay Paul" scenario? (runs away....)
LOL...ain't no extra miles. He hasn't been in the playoffs or played for his country in the last couple of years. If anything, he probably should be a little "fresher" than a lot of guys his age since he hasn't made a lot of deep playoff runs or spent entire summers playing international ball. He looks disgruntled and out of shape to me. I'm sure coming to Houston will help with the attitude and the extra weight will be off him long before May. If we grab him, I expect he is going to be a 16/8 type of player who is going run the floor and block shots. People are calling him and Jones the same player but Smith can lock down the paint when he wants to. So throw in 2+ blocks per game and no more Lamarcus Aldridge going off for 44 points against us.
I am still holding out that we do not get him. Nothing will happen in that case and we will continue to look for that 3rd 'star'.
I think his name argument is like saying everyone should go after Kobe Bryant because he used to be good. The problem with his argument is Smith is WAY better than Dorsey or Black, he was clearly uninterested in playing in Detroit (no surprise it's a ****hole NBA team). From what I read his athleticism doesn't look to be in the decline, which means the biggest problem is his bball IQ. With the right coaching/teammates around him, and with him being happy (he is picking his spot, he should be happy), he will likely improve to nearly ATL lvl Smith
I mean seriously, there is someone on this board who put Joey Dorsey over Josh Smith. Let that sink in for a second. Oy vey.
Well, 5pm is the waiver deadline for Josh, and shortly after he expects a decision. His sources confirmed this.
That's why I am so glad that it is Morey and the Rockets organization who are making the decision and not the fans. Especially the myopic fans who refuse to see any other option but their own analysis, no matter how incorrect it will be proven. The fact that Morey has been after players like Smith, Brewer, Shved, Howard, etc. for so long makes me think he knows a little more about these players and their fit on this team.

This season Josh Smith has s higher defensive rating than anyone on the Rockets. He provides versatility both on the floor and with our ability to make trades. Per 36 minutes this season he is averaging 8.1 reb, 5.3 assists and 1.9 blocks. If he never scores a basket he's still going to be a huge asset. There's so little risk with this acquisition that we'd be foolish to not do it. I don't really see how anyone could argue differently...well...except maybe the guy that argued that Aaron Brooks was a better fit for Houston than Chris Paul.
Not that I'm defending or agreeing with Bobby.....i think his POV is skewed and communication lacking, but I think he probably means with Dorsey he doesn't play out of his limitations often. He sticks for the most part within what he can do and doesn't try to do much more. I assume his notion that Smith is worse the Dorsey comes from the perspective that Smith is incapable of staying within him limitations and does far more than he's capable of, thereby producing a overall negative impact. What I don't know from Bobby and DD is that if they were to believe Smith could stay well within his skill set if they'd feel the same way.
Except he can also play very good D. But yes, Smith brings all the athleticism and ball handling that TJ brought to team.
His last reputation, along with the fact that he is still in his prime, played for the desert known as Detroit basketball, and his best friend being on the team is why people want him. He can still play. To rather have Joey Dorsey or Tarik Black over Josh Smith just does not make any sense.
