Heh and after we pick up Nick Young and Josh Smith we should go after J.R. Smith, Brandon Jennings, and Rudy Gay so we can have a team completely full of the lowest basketball IQ players in the league.
It doesn't work that way. We can't pick up any of his salary. You either claim a player on waivers or you don't. It's not an amnesty.
That's fair, it doesn't surprise me at all actually. if your analysis skills aren't sharp enough to see that Josh Smith is and has been garbage for years, it wouldn't surprise me for you to be completely off base in other areas as well.
Knocking me down still doesn't raise you up any. Since they'll be playing w the same coach, with the same players, in the same system, let's see who plays better...Dorsey, Black, or Smith(if signed). It should prove or disprove your point.
We are not getting that Josh Smith, we are getting the old declining one. I hear ya NIKE - and will cheer for him, but I think he is a LOUSY basketball player at this point. Not even remotely relevant - business and winning at sports are entirely different animals. DD
This whole thread seems to have deteriorated into 100 people trying to convince one person that acquiring Josh Smith with the BAE is a risk worth taking. DaDakota has done a good job of not doing much of this for quite some time (it used to be every day and now I can't remember the last time he completely took over a thread like this). But he's clearly passionate about this one and we're not going to change his mind. Nobody ever has. Take comfort in the fact the majority of us recognize that Josh Smith for 2 million a year would be a brilliant move and is exactly the kind of opportunity Morey was hoping for when he preserved the BAE in the first place.
Another quick question--Who would you say knows more about basketball talent...you, or NBA GMs? Numerous NBA GMs are trying to sign Smith...almost in a frenzy. I don't recall, but was there a big frenzy this summer for Tarick Black or Joey Dorsey? That's all.
I'm not entirely sure you'd be able to tell one way or the other given some of your comments. You look at raw numbers and judge players that way. You see that Josh Smith is scoring 13 points a game and that DMo is scoring 10 and conclude that Josh Smith is the better player when he isn't better on either side of the ball. Honestly, I get the blind hope thing, but anyone who knows what they are doing should know that over the last few seasons, Josh Smith has been one of the most detrimental players to his team in the entire league. If not for Kobe Bryant, Josh Smith would be THE most detrimental player to his team this season. My main point is that doing nothing is better than adding a negative. Josh Smith has been a huge negative the last few years, just because he's good on 2K and has some flashy highlights doesn't change that.
This deal opens up other deals, D-Mo in a package for Dragic being one possible example. Whatever Morey wants is OK by me. You'd think with the Rockets' record, that people might have a bit more faith in what the FO is doing.
You are correct JM - this is something I am passionate about - will let folks hash it out - and I have said at 2m you might as well do it. DD
Here's Smoove in October. I think the difference with Smith now is he WOULD be coming off the bench, thus limiting his possible damage to the team. Also it's pretty clear he has totally phoned with the Pistons just looking at the stats. I think he's a ron artest-esque person that we need to get to be that true contender.
There's no reason why he can't at least give us half of this... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/APvPpogJOJY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Broussard just said: 5pm weds is the waiver deadline and that Josh Smith is meeting with his reps today to go over his options. He said that Josh expects to have decision shortly after 5pm weds.
As long as debates occur with respect for both parties disagreeing is healthy. Its good to have an alternate opinion to go by. The problem I personally have is when guys like bobby debate with a smug persona like they are an NBA gm. Those IMO derail threads and just piss everyone off.
