Mavs fan dropping in. As far as the salary stuff goes, I read that any amount of the new salary above the vet min has to be split between Smith and Detroit. So the actual amount of difference between DAL and HOU would be about $300K and the difference between HOU and MIA also about $300K. Anyways, I suspect he will make his choice based on Role first than Friendship than Money with Rockets as clear favorite.
Oh I do hope he somehow figures out how to play well and that the team wins, I'm just not going to let that hope blind me. I'm also not going to puff up a player and pretend they are worth a damn simply because the Rockets might sign him.
My track record is surprisingly good, but people remember the wrong bits more often because I argued with them so often. It is ok - I get it..... Not even remotely close in this regard, that was a who should start and was better for that team argument - this is about adding a player to the rotation who has been in serious decline for years - and it pushing young players who are better than him down the pecking order in TJo and DMo.... DD
Let's focus on the topic of the thread and less on me - I am just a fan like anyone else - and someone who thinks Josh Smith is a TERRIBLE basketball player at this point in time. Not great, not good, but TERRIBLE. The only reason I would consider it, is he is cheap, and Joey Dorsey is even WORSE than him. DD
I have no idea why people are acting like the Rockets are signing him to some long term contract. This opposition feels so forced, like people want to be cool so they are against it. No one wanted Smith at 13M a year, but for 2M a year? You would be crazy not to. I'm glad some people here are not the GM.
I hear you...I'm not trying to puff him up...or whatever. He is what he is. Which is better than most of our team. I have no rose-colored glasses or blinders on...I'm a firm believer that he's been in bad situations, partly of his own doing(signing w Detroit), but that's his past. If you offered to pay me $54 million, I'd go to Detroit too...I think that he realized his mistake and wants a new start. That will hopefully be here...also, I'm sorry for calling you a grinch. That wasn't neccesary.
A Steal for $2M I think JSmoove is a steal for $2M. Like many others have alluded to, I think it's pretty stupid to let this opportunity go by. On the market, this guy is worth at least $5M/year, AT LEAST. Also, he plays in a position we need, can defend really well, and we need that defensive ability when playing against the top Western Conference teams in the playoffs. Worst case scenario, the fool starts jacking up ill-advised, long-range or deep 2s, and we cut him immediately. Think it's a low-risk - medium/high reward move. TAKE it. Also, if he does pan out in the next 1/2 months, we can move some pieces (Jones if he recovers) around with less nervousness in a deal for Dragic.
You are simply wrong - he would be behind DMo and TJo at this point in his career. He is better than Black and Dorsey, and that is it....he has been declining, you guys are simply remembering the Smith from 4 years ago - he ain't that guy anymore. Both Clutch and MK in their podcast think it is going to happen - which I think is horribly unlucky for our team - but oh well. DD
No, honestly it is. I think people think he will be camped out at 22 feet waiting for a pass to shoot a long 2. Maybe people think he will fight Harden for ball handling duties. At worst, he will be an very good to elite garbage man for the Rockets by blocking shots, rebounding, and look put backs.
his metrics, basic and advanced are so awful, like worst in the league awful. going to be quite the reclamation process.
Really? Look at how he has been playing these last 3 years - it is like a train falling off the tracks over a gorge. He is simply horrid. Maybe a change of scenario and a much lesser off the bench role will help, but I seriously doubt it. Thank you, someone else has actually looked into it a little more deeply too. DD
You underestimate your fellow Rockets fans. There were a lot of people who did not want Rondo before he was traded. Mainly because he would take the ball out of Harden's hands. It's revisionist history to think that most Rockets fans wanted him. Likewise, most want Josh Smith because of his cheap price and potential production. Many have already stated that putting him on any other West playoff team for the minimum would be SCARY.
If Terrance was playing, and playing well, this would be a different deal. When healthy, Terrnece is above average and exciting---like a young Smith(without the defensive prowess). But because he's out, and our backup (DMo) is playing starters minutes, we're a bit desperate. We NEED a good PF to compete in the West...this isn't debatable. LMA destroyed us last season, which is why Smith could be an important signing. Having him harass Aldridge last year could've won us the series. Getting him here and w the team for a few months will hopefully get him back in his groove. If Terrance gets healthy, we'd have a good problem. With Terrance out indefinitely, we really don't have a choice.
