You guys are kidding yourselves if you think Josh Smith will play the 6th man role. The difference between the vet min and the BAE is about $600K; pretty negligible. Miami would be willing to offer him a starting spot and the chance to stay in the East with a respectable FO. Remember, Smith will likely sign for only one year in order to build his rep back up and cash in next summer. If we can't guarantee him a starting spot + minutes, he'll find it elsewhere.
This is a serious accusation. Can you site documented examples of Josh Smith "misbehaving on purpose" in Atlanta and Detroit that go beyond bad play?
For $2M? Sure. Bring him in and see how much he's got left in the tank and whether he fits. Smith was a very effective player just 2 years ago in Atlanta. Did he lose so much physically between age 27 and 29 now that he is a scrub or is it a matter of a bad situation/fit in Detroit? Why not experiment?
I agree with this. The kicker is making sure he doesn't sign with the Mavs. Nutcase or not....second on my list of things I hate behind the rockets losing is the Mavs winning....a distant second but still second.
Why would u think that? It's clearly harden s team.. If smith were to come here he would be a role player. He s mentally is about championship now
Dwight | Josh Smith | Motejunas | Harden | Ariza | Brewer | Beverly | Terry That is a sick 8 man rotation!
Actually, I found an article with some information about Smith being insubordinate with Mike Woodson. http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.com/downloads/WOG SMILIES/EMILY NEVER MIND Animation.GIF I still think this is a gamble worth taking at the price and hole in our line-up. He would be easy to trade.
He is also an upgrade to D-Mo and TJ. This board man! D-mo should be used as a spark off the bench when Dwight is out.
yes! D-mo can be go to guy when the bench is in... Would stagger D-Mo's & Howards minutes... Josh Smith can play with both. It also saves Howard's knees
Lots of talk about Smith wanting a starting spot, but how do you truely know? Maybe he just wants to be in a good winning environment. That being said, in terms of whether or not the rockets can improve off this signing is pretty much fool-proof. He is a obvious upgrade at any position not named dwight howard in the front court. His defense is actually very good both individually and with the team. Sure he may have a bad attitude, but if other players were in his shoes would you think they'd be happy? Doubt it. Give the man a chance, the worst thing that can happen is we spend a few mil for an expiring contract that may or may not work out very well.
