What the hell are you talking about? Josh Smith playing the 4 next to Dwight is a better defensive option than we have on the roster, or could reasonably acquire. For $2 million, he's worth the risk as a f-ing 4th, or 5th option on offense, for that matter.

    Don't be so thick.

Fair enough, when this blows up in our faces, remember that it wasn't everyone that bought into picking up a garbage player like Smith.

Pistons were a complete joke from top to bottom. Hawks weren't that far behind. It's not about change. It's about focus. We didn't change Ron, neither did LA. They just shifted his focus in a way that's more beneficial to the team, as we did. You can always do that with someone who wants to play. If basketball didn't mean anything to Smith, then it would be a problem, but a guy who runs down opposing players to block their shot is not someone who doesn't care about playing. That takes significant pride and determination. Weight his priorities a bit differently, shift his focus, and he's be fine. Why can this team do that? Because we have influence over him (Dwight). Dwight's on the same page as the team and Morey.

He was only terrible in Atlanta for 1 year. Some of you guys are acting like this dude has been a career scrub, he hasn't. He's been a top 5 PF at one point in his career, if he can be 70% of the player he once was he'd be an incredible pick up for this team.

What you are missing is that Josh Smith was a big reason why the Pistons and Hawks were a joke while he was there.

That said, if Morey does this I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I have very little faith in this move. Pretty much the only way this could be worse IMO is if we were talking about picking up Kobe, Rudy Gay, or J.R. Smith

I'm not missing that. I just know that a whole team + management > than Smith. He's going from an environment where he could do what he wanted and wasn't playing for much to a great organization, with great teammates, playing for a ring. He was at his best, when ATL was actually seen as a threat. Have you not ever been influenced to think a bit differently based on the pressure facing you in a new surrounding? That happens, as early as Pre-K.

That's fine, will note this for posterity haha.

Josh Smith for $13M? I would run for the hills. Josh Smith for like $2M? With the team we already have? omgyes

I'm more concerned about Dwight's knee than I am about getting a bargain deal for JSmith. If he accepts being a 4th wheel on offense and stops shooting 3's like he did for a couple years then he is certainly an upgrade over TJones.

You do know that Morey does this for a living right? He must be high on him for a reason. Do you really think Morey hasn't done his homework on J Smith? Would you have drafter Parsons, Landry, Brooks?

We just aren't giving up much. Let's say he sucks and it doesn't work out...we can just, you know, not play him. We're not worse off and gave up almost nothing. I just don't see the downside.

What is the terrible thing that will happen if we sign JSmoove for $2M? That somehow he will continue to play just as poorly but we keep feeding him the ball, even though we have much better options? Why in the world would Howard or Harden or any Rocket do that? Why would we even keep him on the court?

Dude can't shoot worse than Joey Dorsey, and we're pretty much trading him for Dorsey (after we waive the latter lol).

Rockets making a run at Josh Smith, who was waived by Detroit. He should clear waivers Wednesday. Rockets said to be the leaders, with [in no order] Clippers, Grizzlies, Heat, Kings & Mavs also interested.

And something something about whether Smith makes D-Mo expendable (for say, Goran Dragic).

This move will be very low risk in terms of monetary implications but it could definitely destroy the locker room. I like the aggressiveness though, Morey loves his talent.

Man if this could be pulled off....

    Howard/wright/Dmo
    Smith/Dmo
    Ariza/Brewer
    Harden/Dragic/Jet
    Dragic/Bev/Jet

Solid 10 man rotation with backup reserves.....

That's a roster you can lock in and go to war with.

J-Smoove has always been a bad player when playing SF. He has proven to be a solid guy, borderline allstar when playing PF as he isn't chucking up 3's all the time. He isn't a bad scorer when he focuses on the inside.

I get that he needs to be more a stretch 4 next to Howard, but still, he should be gret as our PF, as opposed to playing SF along side Drummond and Monroe.

The Pistons are between a rock and hard place with Greg Monroe and they have a 5-20 record. There is basically no trade market for Monroe given his non Birds rights status and there certainly is no interest in picking up Smith's $26 million. By using the stretch provision they can free up cap space to pay Monroe.

Now, stay with me, the Rockets don't need Smith to play small forward. The Pistons did. So, better fit with the Rockets.

Next, the Rockets can pay him $2 million a year as opposed to $14 million a year.

Next, the Rockets need a defensive power forward that can at least contain people like Anthony Davis, Lamarcus Aldridge, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitski, Zach Randolph and Blake Griffin. Josh can play defense on these players better than anybody not named Dwight Howard.

What do the Rockets have to sacrifice? Joey Dorsey.

So, again, what the hell is the problem with taking a run at a player that fills basketball and roster needs for basically free?

This, guys are acting like we are signing him to a Howard deal. He is better than Dorsey, Black a gimpy Jones for sure.
