If Morey pulls this off the Rockets go from having the thinnest bench in the league at the beginning of the season to a very respectable one in less than 30 games.

Kudos to the real D-Mo, Daryl Morey.

That's not true. Kostas is 24 years old with a good skill set. If he can become more of a consistent shooter he would be a great off the bench player for almost any team in the league.

roughly $5.4M this year with a team option on year 2 at a similar rate.

so he's expiring if you want him to be. or you could look to keep him and renegotiate after the next year. or try to structure it so you renounce and resign him to a reasonable long term deal this year

D-mo post's up alot... most the folks in the game threads think D-mo should get the ball every trip and Harden should never rest so I don't take much of what is said in them as thoughtful opinions. D-mos threes only come occasionally and they aren't even terrible shots... if he could get to at least 30% they would be great shots actually.

He wouldn't have to bench him because if he doesn't want to play our style of basketball he wont see the floor in the first place... I don't know why you have this idea that Mchale doesn't hold his players accountable.

I agree with you that he is not a shooter per se, but I really think his stats falling off a cliff are the result of a really poor roster fit in Detroit. Pretty much everyone has been saying for years that the way Detroit is set up only further highlights Smith's flaws. There is poor spacing so the lane is clogged often times meaning Smith takes more contested shots in the paint, no one on the roster can create a shot for another player(Jennings can create a shot for himself but that's about it) meaning Smith has to try to create his own offense, Smith is the marquee player on his team so he often ends up with the ball forced to make something happen regardless of the shot clock(hello, contested 2 pointer!).

His disastrous time Detroit is not too dissimilar than the Trevor Ariza disaster the first time he was in Houston - a good player, who by circumstances outside of his control was being forced into doing things on the court that he just wasn't good at. Ariza looked like garbage as a result just like Smith now.

....like I said earlier though - I want him on this roster as long as it doesn't cost us too much salary. Smith could be a really really good role player on this team but I don't want him to be a star - just let our guards handle the ball and make smart cuts, crash the glass at times, run the break at times, and most importantly, play defense!

Beats by Dre headphones are complete garbage for the money they cost but if you told me they were $15, I would probably buy a pair. The "no" from earlier was based on the value compared to how much of our cap he would consume. at the cost they are talking about though - it's a perfect high upside gamble.

Because we didn't have the option to pay $2+ a year for him in July.

Trading valuable assets and paying $13.5M vs. releasing Dorsey or Black and paying $2M.

I'm still not a big fan of the guy, but the price seems right.

Which Howard are you talking about? Dwight doesn't get angry about anything.

Smith starting with dmo as the primary big man off the bench sounds really good.

I was watching a pistons clippers game the other day (bet on it) and was thinking josh smith would be perfect for defending the west PFs like Griffin.
I really think if we land him then that is all our team needs, the rest would be up to the players to show up.

Right now Miami scares me. I feel they might swoop in and get him.

One important note, I believe we NEED to trade for Dragic after acquiring Smith, if we want to keep them both. If we wait till free agency to sign Dragic, due to lacking bird rights (and even though his salary will be much lower), we probably can't re sign Smith. That would be a huge chemistry killer if we make a big playoff run with Smith as a major part of the rotation.
