Dumb people riot, there's not much that can change that. Resisting arrest and trying to fight cops was stupid in 1992, it's stupid in 2014, it'll be stupid in 2026. Bad things happen to stupid people when they do stupid things.

Right ... and the LAPD has shown measurable improvements since making some changes after the riots.

The picture of the guys on the roof shows a failure in the social contract between a police force and their constituents. The police were given power so that citizens wouldn't have to seek justice themselves. When one side is perceived as bailing on that contract, the other side will bail as well.

LAPD is still not perfect, as the article acknowledges, but the system wasn't as good as it gets then, why do we have to believe it's as good as it gets now?

The recent nonsense has been because 2 innocent men weren't indicted....it wasn't about a system not working, it was about people not getting the result they wanted because they weren't interested in true justice.

Would it have been stupid for Medgar Evers to resist, or was he better off going quietly to his death?

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, was he killed while being arrested or was he shot by a fertilizer salesman?

I'm glad the topic shifted to gun control instead.

The amount of people pretending this wasn't racially motivated related was sickening.

That's odd. The clause you quoted says nothing about limiting types of weapons or restricting who can own guns or whether they can be visible or not - it simply opposes ALL infringment of rights to bear arms. Interesting that you believe that clause would define whether those laws are Constitutional or not, unless you are reading things into the Constitution that aren't actually there.

Is it sickening gun control became the subject when the person with a gun was black and shooting non-blacks?

Well for example, true justice was when they didn't bring charges against 2 innocent men simply to pacify a lynch mob. Now members of the lynch mob claim to want "justice" but what they really want is a lynching, someone is dead and they want someone to blame for it. That's not justice.

Gun control laws in the UK have been around for centuries, so this idea that it was just implemented is non-sense.

The fact is that gun control laws in the UK have really worked in saving lives.

Yeah, you don't really have any idea what you are talking about.

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearms_(Amendment)_(No._2)_Act_1997

Maybe you should speak with someone from the UK.

Prior to 1997 it was about as easy to get a gun as is some of the more restrictive US states.

If you just want a gun control law, US has had one since 1932 and another since 1968.

Mayor de Blasio, who should resign, just called for an end to the protests. This is an acknowledgement that the protests created a mindset that led to these two NYPD officers' deaths. It's one thing to feel sorry for a group of protesters, but sadly, society enabled them to carry things way too far. It's ridiculous how long these ignorant protests were allowed to continue. Why would anyone listen to society's least civilized and least educated for guidance on police relations? It's absurd.
