Dallas is rumored to be interested in Smith. Does Dirk have to take another pay cut to sign him ? It seems by the end of the season, Dirks will be paid as much as the concession stand employees.
We need to sign him..he excels in the open court. Not that slow methodical offense the Pistons tried to force him into.

to be fair only about 9% of Josh's FGAs are 3's... which is like half as many as D-mo shoots and Smith is a better 3 point shooter than D-mo. Smiths real problem is the shots he takes in the 16 to 20ft range which if he played here you can guarantee he wont be taking very many of
I wouldn't mind him IF he plays the right way. This is a low risk move for the simple fact we have enough players to where he will just get benched. I believe he would play the right way for the simple fact this is a contending team and that he's friends with dwight and hakeem has trained him in the past.

From what i recall seeing him with the hawks, he excels in nothing except maybe blocking shots, he shoots ill-advised 3 pts which opponents dare him to shoot, he likes go ISO on the post, that atlanta team's offense is basically, Joe johnson ISO, Josh Smith ISO, and then Al hord ISO, his terrible defense is somewhat covered by his blocking ability
Harden would set him for so many easy buckets. And alley oops in the open court. He's a little better than t jones but we may not Terrence back this season.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/LblAKjwgDo4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Josh smith would give us a shot blocking presence of the bench, something we lacked, especially the game against the Hawks.

Man some of you guys are crazy. If he clears waivers you definitely look at signing him for Vet min. Yes, he has had his shooting issues (when trying to be the man), but in our system and with this group I don't see that being an issue. He would provide great defense on PFs and SFs, helpside D, rebounding, and a great finisher around the rim. Release Black for Smith and we are good to go. We will see what happens on Wed. I can't see anyone picking up that salary. This will come down to Howard vs rondo recruiting and the best fit. We have the best fit when he sees our young starting PF is out for an extended period of time so he knows the minutes will be there for him right away. He wont start in Dallas with Dirk there eating up the PF mins and Parsons eating up the SF mins.
We just did something similar for Brewer/Shved.. I'm sure we won't mind doing it for Smith, who'd be on a cheaper contract.
What's the risk if he could be had for cheap? Not only does it help out injuries, but he's a good Dwight friend, and would make TJ even more expendable. I'd personally do it. Detroit was awful for him but with Dwight, our vets, and McHale I think it could work out.
THIS would be a totally different situation if he comes here now. He would not be trying to be 'the man'. That ATL team was him and Joe going ISO with bad coaching to boot (not that McHale is a HOF coach but he would have rules for him).
I think you have to factor in the environment he's been in the last couple of seasons - his efficiency really took a nosedive when he landed in DET, and that's no coincidence. Get him into a better environment with a better defined role (and a smaller role, BTW) and he might well rebound. With our TJones woes I see no reason not to take a roll of the dice on this. The potential payoff is huge, potential risk small.
