Hey, it's time to poo or get off the pot. If that's the case then the deal better go down shortly. There's no way we should be dragging Canaan around on the bench not playing him until the deadline just so we can hand him over to PHX uninjured. That's beyond ridiculous. So deal better go down next week or this is crap.

Canaan isn't healthy yet, he's still working his way back from that gruesome ankle injury.

Aside from that, Canaan will always be a matchup specialist until he can improve his defense. Similar to Troy Daniels, the team's mantra this year seems to be "play good defense or you will lose your minutes".

Canaan has to get better and he will, he will learn from watching Beverly.

Play good defense? How do you explain Terry getting minutes? If that's all there is to it then Terry needs to be inactivated and all the backup point guard minutes should go to Nick Johnson.

There's more to it than that. Canaan is a better defender than Terry, a better handle than Terry by far, probably a better shooter than Terry, and definitely a better distributor than Terry. Canaan is also a far superior shooter, handle, and passer than Johnson.

And if he's still dinged why did he play 8 minutes the other night?

It was very frustrating watching Terry and Johnson get smothered out there when I know Canaan has the tools to punish that defense.

I'm going to laugh if Morey ends up trading Jason Terry. It seems the only way to prevent McHale from overplaying the veteran role players that are now scrubs is to ship them away. Like literally leave McHale no choice but to play his young players and then GASP... said young players scouted by Morey and his team are actually good!

I am guessing that this is just the case of Canaan not being 100% or in rhythm yet. He is one guy who can both shoot from distance and do some stuff off the dribble. I'd like to see what he does given a string of games with consistent minutes. Not sure he's the "answer" or anything, but you might as well try him out.

Has anyone noticed Canaan's transition d being one of the worst you have seen?

I reckon he would get killed in transition in practise thus mchale not trusting him.

If only we could merge bev and Canaan

Would be the perfect trade asset ;)

Part of it has got to be due to his disrespect of the coach. Don't remember which game, but there was a moment out of a time out, where Mchale was talking to Canaan. He turns around (now facing the camera) and does the "damn this guy is so f'n annoying" type of rolling eyes.

Reminded me a lot of Lowry during his stint with Mchale. Can't be a good relationship between the two.

I think that McHale is training our bench. It's still early on, and our record is pretty good, so he's probably just making sure that the new/young guys are getting used to getting minutes, in case he needs them near the end of the season/in the playoffs. We all know Canaan can play, he just has to wait a bit so Big Dick Johnson can get the feel for the game.

The Rockets have a lot of promising pieces. That's a fact of life on a Morey led team. Nick Johnson, Cannan and previously Daniels all arguably deserved minutes and can/could help this rockets team now. Injuries have delayed this potential problem from becoming evident early but as players get healthy this will become an area where Mchale will need to demonstrate faith in his bench by extending his rotation. He needs to develop a rotation that can continue his system even with Harden or Howard on the bench. I know that's not an easy thing to do but we have more than enough talent to give it a try.

No, I haven't noticed this. But I'd be willing to consider it. Do you have some video or do you have a game in mind where Canaan showed poorly in transition D?

Perhaps this may have merit. I don't know. The Canaan I have known has been a hard-working kid trying to earn his minutes. Haven't ever noticed attitude issues with him. He's a fun loving guy. You see him on the bench waiving the towel and jumping up and down when his teammates do something good. And it doesn't make sense to me that he would be dumb enough to have a poor relationship with McHale. I'd have to see a lot more evidence on this one to believe it.

Mchale best coaching moments come when he is forced to play players he usually wouldn't play for ex. Dmo. He doesn't take advantages of the role players we have on this team and he mis-uses them.
