What did you guys think of that Twist? Didn't see that coming because I went in thinking it was something different. Both surprised and disappointed. The Twist brings in some interesting questions and I'm still intrigued, but so disappointed. Spoiler Leave it to SyFy to take the Space out of, what I thought from the previews, was a Space Epic. Why is SyFy so afraid of space? They have abandoned the space epic since the successes of BSG,StarGate and the too soon cancellation of StarGate Universe. I was really hoping this was the show that would return us to the damn stars... Oh well there's always... Oh right, there's nothing... Zombies it is... They did a very good job keeping that twist under wraps though.
Isn't the very mention of an unexpected "Twist" a spoiler. "Hey guys. I just watched Ascension; there's a big twist to the plot in it. You're going to be surprised."
Watched the first episode last night. Thought it was pretty watchable, kept my interest at least, as for the twist, eh, it's pretty obvious early on....
I didn't like the twist. It seems like the central premise of the show regarding the tensions and social stress of an isolated community could've done without it a Shamylan twist. Spoiler One thing that really bothered me about the twist is accepting that these are are incredibly smart people on a space voyage it would be easy to figure out they really weren't in space. I understand shows don't like to show a lot of zero G because it is pricy but the people on the ship should be able to figure out that they were still in a one G environment and short of artificial gravity from Star Trek (60's show but no way 60's Tech) could that gravity be simulated, Even in a spinning tube as in Babylon 5 the fake gravity from centrifugal force wouldn't exist in the middle of the tube.
Watched all 3 episodes. Let's just say the train takes a while to leave the station. They clearly put a lot of effort into the show. Acting is decent but the scripts and premise aren't anything special IMO. Maybe that changes going forward. SyFy apparently has big expectations for Ascension, 12 Monkeys and The Expanse. I'd say they started 0/1 but Ascension still has a chance to be good. Specifically regarding the "twist": It is more palatable once you get over it and watch episodes 2 and 3.
I thought the whole thing was stupid and predictable. Now if they had made a series out this show, it might of been really good. The sex scenes were really unnecessary and seemed forced.
I thought it was strange that there were credits in between a 2 hour "event." Seems like at the last minute Syfy wanted to make this a series but then backed out... I thought this show would have been more interesting if they stuck with what they promised in the previews. They haven't canceled it yet but the ratings weren't very good. I was disappointed with that twist but I thought this show was better than anything they have produced in years.
I've never been very good at Spoiler Math. I mean, this is a discussion about the show. How are we supposed to discuss the show without discussing what happened in the show? I think we have done a pretty good job not revealing what the twist is even though I said there was a twist. I guess it doesn't matter. Doesn't look like this show will get a second season anyway.
