A very nice part time role player

Dwight Howard is paid three times what Asik is because he is three times the player.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to enter a championship window? You never ever trade a superstar even if you fear he is about to break down. Even one shot at a ring is worth ten times any garbage you will get back.

The refs call the most bs touch fouls on Dwight and you are asking why he sets screens like he is in the national ballet association?

I knew what to expect with dwight. Rebounds, blocks, rim protections, and he will shut down any center in the league. He also gets putbacks and alleys which is a very efficient 8-10 points a game. That post game we saw in the playoffs was just gravy.

So the guys hating on dwight are trolls unless it is because they are seriously concerned about his health status.

I love when trolls like the op get asked these questions and they do not have an answer. We had max cap room remember? We did not miss out on any of them because of Dwight's salary and summer of Dwight no one was even close to as good as him in FA. And yet, we still have max cap room if we need it because of the new tv deal.

The op is just a troll.

Dwight looks like a guy who has just came back from a knee injury and his free throw percentage has been way up.

Some of you guys are just mad we lost a game.

Shaqs comments were atrocious. Howard was a free agent. He has every right to weigh his options and make a business decision. But because he is a player exercising his right he is playing with people. No, because he is dwight howard. According to shaq, dwight was supposed to go up to the lakers and say trade me when he was a free agent.

Dwight gets hated on for reasons that make no sense. Nobody hates melo for sucking ass at d and chucking. Kobe is barely starting to get hate for chucking while playing no d. Dwight does everything on defense. That is who he is. The best defensive centers in the league are worth the max. Look at what tyson chandler got paid.

I will make this my last post in this thread. Notice how other teams attack the paint the moment dwight goes out and get a bunch of layups? Yeah, thats what our defense would look like without dwight. Asik would help, but he does not change nearly as many shots.

I agree. The 12-14 foot wing bank shot would do wonders for his game. It is so much easier to defend someone if he is standing in a spot he is ineffective in. The guy can not shoot from there so they will give him space when he faces up rather than tightening up. If he could shoot causing them to tighten up, he would have so much room to operate and blow past his man. His post game is so much more predictable when he is that far away.

This thread isn't even relevant anymore with the acquisition of Shved.

Things i would like to see more from dwight in the post:

    More fakes
After he passes the ball out fake pass then quickly make a move for the score. Sell the fake pass.
Fake pass to the cutters that give him the post entry pass. Why he does not do this is beyond me, you have to keep the defense guessing. If it is dangerous to fake pass or fake hand off then just move your head and act like your gonna ass it.
    Head fakes in general
    Up fakes, reposition, dunk
That close to mid range bank shot so he can blow past his man or just get closer when he faces up. He is so much faster than his man, but it doesnt matter if his man is halfway closer to him to the rim and he is 7 feet tall so he can easily block dwight.
Full extension on every layup attempt if he does not dunk it.

He is a role player... He is not a complete player is he. Think post game and FT% to the point he was / is a liability in close games.
He is a better player the Asik but 3X the player (you knew that was wrong when you typed it... Asik, Asik,Asik vs Howard - most would take the 3 Asiks)

The window won't open (doors won't shut)

Maybe the foundation is cracked. :)

So we should hang on to and over pay because?

    Howard
    for
Bledsoe, Len, and Twolves pick, and the Laker pick (try to get Kieff, too)
Howard is worth 10 times this?

    Or we wait for...
I know, more of Howard's grab-ass games and a $22M/per smile from a folding chair on the sidelines for the next 3 years.

Take your pick of players. $20 million can buy you a lot if you spend it smartly.

Dwight is overrated when it comes to his offense as a post up player. He is an elite rebounder and defender. All his problems come from trying to feed him the ball in the post against skilled defensive big men. Dwight has never developed a signature, go-to, unstoppable move like the Dreamshake or the Sky-Hook. He has ZERO touch around the basket and commits way too many turnovers from offensive fouls and/or losing the ball when he tries to dribble. If he would buy into being mainly a pick-n-roll player his scoring average and shooting percentage would probably go up.

I can't believe no one has mentioned one of Dwight's greatest values to this team... his ability to get the other team's big men in foul trouble. Dwight gets fouled pretty much every time he touches the ball, and it's called about 70% of the time. This not only gets their bigs in foul trouble, but also gets us in the bonus quicker. With a guy like Harden that draws fouls as much as he does, we have many quarters where we are in the bonus with 6 mins left in the quarter. That is obviously huge. When back ups have to come in because they are in foul trouble, Harden and Dwight punish them inside. It's a win-win.

There is not a player in the league without flaws. Harden turns the ball over too much, and can be inconsistent on defense. Durant can get pushed off his spot too often, and can also have turnover issues when he puts the ball on the floor. Davis has injury issues, and also is not a great rotational defender (yet, he really can be scary good if he stays healthy). To say Dwight is a role player because he can't consistently post up every defender in the league is ridiculous. He dominates some centers, and struggles with others. The things he brings to every single game is what makes him so valuable to us, and that includes intimidation in the paint, great post D, elite rebounding, and a great finisher around the rim (when healthy obviously). I mean he is averaging 20 points, 12 rebs, and 2.5 blks... I'm not really sure what more you could ask from him.

I can also say with 100% confidence that I would take Dwight for our team over the four players that make more money than him.

I think Dwight is a great player when utilized right. I believe that when the whole team focuses on defense it makes his position on the court dominant. He is at his best as a defender and rebounding. I think he is an above average offensive player at his position as well. That doesn't mean we should go to him 4 straight times on the post. Him getting post touches does open up the floor though so it's important he gets his touches. We now the pick and roll is the highest percentage option when scoring for Dwight. His free throws still suck but o well. It is what it is. Of course if Dwight could shoot 80% from the line he would probably be the most dominate player in the game. In the end he is above average at his position at everything except free throws. When you see him go 1 of 6 at the line we have a tendency to have negative thoughts which should not dictate how good he is in the long run.
