After reading some of the things being said about him, I think I can find a bit more excitement than earlier. It was a good point that he's been defending probably the best opponent in games. And I like that he's a slasher, as it shows that he can be a bit more effective on offense than I was thinking. If we limit his mid range shots and focus on cuts to the basket and that 1 corner 3, I think he can work out in our offense. If he's as good a man defender as other posters make it sound, he could work out very well with Bev, Ariza and Howard. That said, I still don't think he'll be with us on 2/20/2015. But even if he is, I think it's a good pick-up and gives Harden and Ariza a bit of time to breath during games. And it's not even debatable that he increases the depth on our team, especially if we're going to keep seeing injuries at the rate we've seen them lately. Ok, you can call me somewhat excited about the move, now. Thanks for changing my mind, CF!
Our perimeter defense is bad? News to me. This guy is talking as if our perimeter defense is so bad that he couldn't believe there was a way to make it worse.
thing is morey (radio) and mchale (rockets video) have talked about the rockets losing the transition game from their play from the loss of parsons and lin because they were replaced with spot up shooters and better defenders. both have also talked about trade to remedy this as well hoping one of the younger players would emerge (canaan?).
Well, we tried the other Brewer last year, that kind of fizzled, and everyone was saying we should have got that OTHER Brewer even then.. so, hopefully this time around we got the right Brewer  Plus we just doubled our headband usage, which opens up tens of dollars of merchandising revenue! Les is already counting the $$$
I Agree, we have the three part checked pff but the layups outside of harden have been poor. Ariza is barely an ok slasher.
Interesting that Parsons replaced Brewer at Florida and Brewer is now taking over some of his role here.
Here's the big thing about Turiaf if they keep him: Turiaf's salary allows you to construct a trade without including Terry, Papa or Brewer that acquires Dragic. Hypothetically: Turiaf TJones Capela Canaan That's enough salary, barely, to nab Dragic from Phx. I'm not saying they'd take that deal or that we should do that deal even, but it is possible now.
Brewer's contract doesn't end until after next season. He could be traded for an exception or expiring, but the other team will want what the Lakers got, a first.
Many observers, including guys like Zach Lowe and the advance stats guys, don't think Brewer is a very good defender. I tend to agree that he is more of a gambler and energy guy than a defensive stalwart. But with this team, I think Brewer can fit in and contribute on both ends. We just need him to follow the game plan-- which likely asks him to do a lot of what he does well in just being a spazz on defense-- and we have good enough defenders around him to make the thing work. Also, the Rockets have struggled generating fast-break easy buckets at the same rate as they did last year because Parsons left. Parsons was our best guy at sprinting out for fast-break buckets and finishing. Brewer can do this very well.
In a true championship contender, there is no room for Black, Dorsey, AND Johnson. Two of them are rookies, and the other has not improved from his rookie year. We still need to address the backup 5 hole, but we are better snd deeper than yesterday. I love this trade.
I'm sure that's not a coincidence either. I wouldn't be surprised if we see those same guys and the Pelicans pick traded for a player of that contract, even if its not Dragic.
Decent trade. Good that they didn't lose the NYK pick or a first. Harden obviously needs a quality backup. I'm on board.

Morey could also be trying to flip Turiaf today with cash for a player with a little bit bigger salary. That may be why he is working to expand the deal (allegedly.) If you could get that salary up a smidge you wouldn't need to include a 3rd asset.
