For a 3's and layups team, we lack a slasher. I don't think we have 1 fast, athletic slasher. Most of Brewer's production is at the rim. Corner 3's, attack the basket, and D. Fastbreaks, back cuts, slash off the ball.
I'm still looking through stuff, but here's what I've got: Houston Out: 4.7 Million of Lin TPE Sacramento 2nd Future Houston 2nd Houston In: Corey Brewer Then, in a separate but concurrent trade: Houston Out: Troy Daniels Houston In: Ronny Turiaf
Honestly didn't remember the 1st, but Dragic didn't have much value behind Nash at the time. Pick turned out to be Mirotic, so about a even trade.
I'm curious as to your reasoning behind that. Isn't Turiaf an expiring contract? I would imagine that, even if his value as a player is bad and he can't be flipped, that he isn't really costing us anything other than a roster spot.
Depends on how much the cash will be, that's probably equal to another second round pick - late second round pick could be have for 1 mil. Hey its Les money and I don't give a fork about it. But it will be very interesting to see how McHale will use Brewer and Kpap in the next few months. Neither are good shooters, neither are great defenders, neither can really play 2 or 4 that well, if you play one more, it will hurt the trade value for the other one also.
To me this means Dragic deal was not destined to be TPE. May still happen, but would not have included the Lin exception.
Yep, he's not. He's a solid defender though who will probably benefit from having elite defenders like Ariza/Beverly/Howard around him. Good get. 2nd rounders, draft picks, whatever. Dwight is what...29? We don't have time to put too much impact on potential. Sure keep Papa and D-Mo because they can produce and play now. Others though...
He can actually be a potential net positive to cheap team. You throw him into a trade as the last piece and then add cash. Because his salary gets paid by insurance, the team who takes him off your hands makes a little bit of money out of the deal. For a team like the Suns that has sold first round picks routinely over the years, maybe they like that idea.
Looks like he has one more yr after this one. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/ronny-turiaf/
It's really too bad that Ronny Turiaf is out for the season. A few years ago he was a pretty decent center. Big, could rebound, block shots, finish strong. I'd very much like his size at backup C (IIRC he also has a decent midrange jumper?). I like that we got Brewer and didn't give up anything significant. Brewer isn't the answer, duh. But he is a decent player that brings some athleticism to the wing spot. He will benefit greatly from Harden's playmaking. I see many dunks coming his way.
Interesting stat, but Brewer's championship on the Mavs has about the same value as Adam Morrison's championship on the Lakers. He wasn't in the rotation.
Just thought of this...Do you think this is in anyway McHale trying to secure his job after this year?
Public Service Announcement to Clutchfans: When we traded Asik to New Orleans we picked up the 1st round pick, Alonzo Gee and other scrubs. We traded Alonzo Gee's un-guaranteed salary to Sacramento for Jason Terry and TWO 2nd round picks. We have now traded two 2nd round picks (possibly) for Corey Brewer. So basically, think of it as we traded Asik and Troy Daniels for the Pellies 1st round pick in 2015, Corey Brewer and Jason Terry. I dare you to be mad at that.
A roster spot that we could really use. We haven't been the poster boys for health this year. I don't like giving up multiple picks, a valuable asset in the TPE, a very good young shooter for a guy who can't shoot 3s while having to take on the contract of Turiaf. I think Morey stretches the deal out to send Turiaf elsewhere because honestly I don't feel comfortable having essentially a corpse on our roster.
It will be interesting to see how good his "not elite defense" is when he's got elite rim protection behind him, a good wing defender next to him and an elite defensive PG.
Everyone wants to crown Dallas. We match up so well with them it's not even funny. We will own the west.
