I could definitely live with that. We'd still have the ability to package the NOP pick and Jones for an upgrade at the 4 at the trade deadline.
(Cool Story Bro) I used to work with Kendrick Perkins Mom's best friend (when Perkins Mom was alive) and its absolutely sad what happened to Perkins in his childhood. Still don't like him though
Personally I think Ainge waited too long trying to maximize his return here. Now it's got to be a downhill slope in a very limited market. We go toward the deadline and Rondo can opt out....and now the PHX situation is hanging there as well. Fact is supply and demand is coming into play here. There's a load of top-notch point guards out there. And we're not doing badly at the PG spot although we do need that second playmaker. And it appears to me that McHale for whatever reason really doesn't want to turn that role over to Canaan. I know last night was Canaan's first game back but come on now. He played like 6 minutes. And then McHale has Nick Johnson and Tarik Black, two raw rookies -- one a second rounder and one a non-draftee--out there for extended minutes together just getting trounced on. That game wouldn't have been close if McHale would have simply staggered those guy or perhaps just taken Black out in favor or Dorsey and Johnson out in favor of a few more minutes of Canaan. Why would you bring a guy back and play him 6 minutes? If he isn't ready, he isn't ready. Don't play him at all. Don't put him on the active roster. It just doesn't make sense to me that Canaan hasn't gotten significant run as the second playmaker. Because he is clearly the second best playmaker on this current roster. They must see something in his game to know he's not the answer and they are hiding it or they already have him pegged as a trade piece. My own feelings at this time are: 1. The core of this team is Bev/James/Ariza/Dwight/DMo. Those guys cannot be traded. They're too important to this team. And that includes DMo. I wouldn't trade DMo right now for LaMarcus Aldridge. His game has moved to another level and there's no telling how much higher he is going to go. 2. I would trade any combination of our other assets but try to preserve the Pels pick for the coming off season. Putting those two things together, max offer for Dragic or Rondo would come from our pool of talent and assets (Canaan, Kostas, Capella, Terrence, Daniels, Black, Johnson, JET, 2016/2017/2018 first round picks, second roundrs, TPE, rights to Llull) Something along the lines of Canaan plus Kostas plus whatever other salary if necessary for salary match plus possibly one future first rounder plus multiple second rounders plus possibly Llull....for Rondo or Goran.
Even if we can't get Dragic for the TPE, that is a better team than what we have today to win now AND to build on. Jones is a big question mark with the latest injury. Terry was meant as an expiring contract to trade who had better than expected on court results...but keep in mind Terry's age. I know were in a win now mode but are we really going to take the title with this team this year because if they don't, I doubt he comes back as I doubt the Rockets sign him for more than vet min and he can do that anywhere...including his fav Mavs. And his years remaining really are few. And we still have the TPE to fill in the holes
If Morey did land Rondo or Dragic (which , honestly, I doubt) , that means Bev would go to the bench, which wouldn't be that bad since he'd still be getting 25+ minutes per game. The problem is (which I just learned on here) that Bev doesn't have a team option for next year - he's actually gonna be a restricted free agent. I don't think teams are going to overpay for someone like Bev - especially because there are a ton of good, solid PGs in the NBA, but it makes you wonder - what if Bev does go for the money and a starting spot? You gotta remember he hasn't made much in the NBA - and it makes sense for him to grab a large contract.
Agreed on his childhood.. Perk has a bit of a 'tude on the court, but truthfully, he's not all that bad of a guy. There are many worse people in the league.. Still cannot root for him in his current threads though.
Was McHale possibly showcasing Nick Johnson or just trying to keep Canaan from re-injuring himself so either could be packaged in a trade??
If you noted I am not advocating RR to Rox, long been against it. However, I have heard counter stories to yours and maybe you're right. Whatever. Not only is Rondo a poor fit here IMO he might just be a poorer fit in Mavsland, again IMO. I am not actually sure where I think he does fit for a current contender/pretender.
Sorry but I would trade away 5 DMOs for one Lamarcus Aldridge all day everyday. LOL. Thats laughable.
Haha. You are right about that. Not that this is news to anybody, but that guy is on another planet than we are.....hell, he is in another universe. As it was put to me- "There's something seriously wrong with that dude's brain and the way it works"
Plan C: Throw a 2nd Rounder to Minny for Brewer and another 2nd Rounder to Denver for Darrell Arthur Bev/Canaan Harden/Ariza Ariza/Brewer Dmo/Green/Arthur Howard/Dmo I'd put that team up against anyone in the league.
Simply we needed solid wing defense and McHale just trusts more NJ than IC for that task. McHale missed Papas and Garcia yesterday; another reason why he's pushing for a Brewer trade.
Hmm basketballholic... I agree with a lot of your post... But LA for DMo... I'd have say that I would take that in a heartbeat. I think DMo has a lot of upside but LA is an immediate impact player.
