Well, if the Mav's give them a first round pick in 2018, who's to say it will be late round with Dirk probably gone by then? Wright is not a bad player, either. I wouldn't dismiss this out of hand.

That's all well and good, but if Morey views Rondo as a part of a big 3, then he will likely pull the trigger. He has stated before it takes at least 2 but most likely 3 cornerstones to win a championship. All of his actions since acquiring Howard have clearly indicated that his top priority is to find our 3rd star.

So what I am reading in this thread is that the Rockets should just quit for the rest of the season if Rondo goes to the Mavs????? You have got to be kidding me. Serioulsy, I think it would make them a worse team especially if they have to give away depth to get him. He is absolutely terrible on offense and can't even hit a free throw this year. I mean he is worse than Dwight at the line.

Shouldn't the Mavs be worried about hurting Chandler's feelings when he becomes their 4th best player?

    I know. Wrong forum.

I'd have to think that calculation is way too far away and has way too many variables to be part of a serious consideration.

    I don't think we'd be giving up D-Mo.

Morey would suck to do that because Rondo is a expriing. If Ainge even bought up DMO then Morey will tell him that's too much to trade for a guy who can bolt.

Exactly, I don't get the love affair that posters have with this guy. Sure, he won a championship -- He also had prime Garnett, Pierce, Ray Allen, Tony Allen, Doc Rivers, etc.

He's been garbage ever since those guys left and he hasn't been able to stay healthy.

If we give up DMo for he incredibly overrated Rondo, I would be sick. I would probably be sick if we give up anyone for Rondo. I can just see opposing teams having two players on our team they can hack at will once we are in the penalty.

From a value standpoint the comparison really isn't close. Not only the uncertainty, but also that value short term is always preferable to value way into the future. Even if Boston is rebuilding, a pick in 2018 will contribute when, 2020? Even if Boston's rebuilding, you'd expect them to compete again in 2 years with Smart, this year's lottery pick, and next year's high pick.

You are right. Just playing devil's advocate. I think the purpose of getting this so-called offer by the Mavs out in the public eye is for other teams to up the ante for Rondo. Is Capela + Jones + Terry + NO pick too much?

...seems like rondo is the exact opposite of Howard. Not sure if adding Rondo would be a good chemistry move....to me Rondo is about as valuable in this system as Bev is so why not keep Bev?

If Morey wants Rondo then he'll get em. The Pels pick>>>Any pick Dallas can offer, and we can provide the overall better package.

Morey could offer a package like:

    NOP pick (projected 9-14 selection)
K-Pap (young euro with upside on a favorable contract)
Rights to Llull (most NBA ready PG in Europe)
    OR
    NYK 2nd Rounder
Jason Terry (Hate to lose him, but gotta fill salaries.

That gives you a rotation of:
    Rondo(33 MPG)/Beverley (15 MPG @ PG)
    Harden (35 MPG)/Beverley (13 MPG @ SG)
    Ariza (37 MPG)/Garcia (11 MPG)
    Motiejunas (18 MPG @ PF)/Jones (30 MPG)
    Howard (30 MPG)/Motiejunas (18 MPG @ C)/Black/Dorsey

Ya I also thought this story was a leak to try to inflate the offers for Rondo. I would guess that they want to make it appear like there is an arms race in the west...

I'm not giving up shhhh for Rondo, he's a pest and Beverley off the bench will not work + I don't want to see him traded.

Use the TPE to get Corey Brewer and add depth at the SF position and PF position (while TJ is out) and call it a day. Championship or Bust!

If Morey does talk to Boston, I hope it is just to jack up the price for whatever team is stupid enough to pull the trigger on a Rondo deal.

Cannot give up kpap without replacing him. We'd rather give up tj since kpap can play Pf as well

I may be a homer, but I would not offer Dmo for Rondo.

Rondo is clearly the better player, but Dmo is exactly what this team needs from the PF. And without him, we are trotting out Papa to guard opposing PFs, and eventually Jones which worked very well in the playoffs.

I maybe overrating Dmo, but how many players like him in the game are there? A PF that is good defensively and is a great post-up player. We need him to guard the Zbo's and Lma's of the league.

Upgrading to Rondo increases the team on a talent standpoint, but at what cost?

If we go after a point guard it should be Dragic or nothing. We are much better off standing pat at PG then adding a no offense, lousy free throw shooting, potential team cancer to this roster
