I guess the sweetener has to be Reggie Bullock, right?... Barnes + bullock for Brewer. NOP pick obviously is better, but Morey is not giving that for Brewer, I assume. HOU is probably dangling Troy Daniels + second. so between bullock and Troy I guess Bullock is probably the better payoff for minesotta. Bima, I have another question, though. if Clips are only $800k below apron, can they really sign Ray Allen or J.Oneal? Isn't the vet minimum more than that?
The prorated minimum on a one-year deal for one player would probably fit by about this point in the season.
This is exactly what Daryl Morey is aiming to do here. Morey will need to acquire this contract (like you said, an expiring contract in the $6-$8 mil range, the higher, the better) no later than 12/20, so as to allow him to comfortably make a trade involving that contract before the 2/19 trade deadline. 2/19 = 61 days after 12/20. Morey may need to throw in a late second round pick but preferably the deal only involves "draft considerations" (i.e., "nothing"). Look for players with expiring contracts, in the $6-$8 mil range, who play little or no minutes for their current team. I think Boston is actually trying to make the playoffs this season so I kind of doubt they just give Brandon Bass away, but Bass' contract works. Other contracts that work: Landry Fields Tayshaun Prince Wilson Chandler Jason Richardson Philly will need to either waive or trade a player first. Presumably Francisco Garcia, but possibly Troy Daniels. I expect this trade to happen on Friday afternoon (12/19). Dwight Howard isn't getting any younger, or better, or healthier. And there is no obvious frontrunner to win it all this year, so this is the year for Morey to go for it.
I strongly doubt that the Rockets will simply acquire a total dead-weight contract (i.e., Richardson) simply for the sake of having another expiring contract to trade in 2 months. Terry, Papanikolaou and a little filler is enough salary to trade for nearly any player. If anything, the Rockets will make a move for a Brandon Bass-level player who might contribute off the bench for the next 2 months or the remainder of the year. Also, an acquiring team cannot waive one of the players it acquires in order to comply with the 15-man roster limitation. It must first waive its own players in order to take on the incoming players and still meet the 15-man roster restriction. After the trade, they can always waive an acquired player.
I agree , they aren't going to acquire a dead weight contract just to have it to move , any player Morey picks up with that TPE will have to have some value on the court along with having a significant enough contract to facilitate trades at the deadline. Yeah , JET & KPap are enough combined salary to match most players but can you really see either being moved ?! Watching this team , I get the feeling that they are essential parts to this team both on the court & in the locker room. If one or both are being moved , the return has to be superstar caliber in my opinion. (then again it is Morey at the controls).
BOOM!!! Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA 3m3 minutes ago Yahoo Sources w/ @SpearsNBAYahoo: Celtics showing a renewed willingness to trade Rajon Rondo. http://yhoo.it/1w0j7Gg
honestly don't really want him...dont think he's much of an upgrade over p.bev at this point..i guess it all comes down to the price.
I really dont want us getting Rondo. Mainly because he is a worse shooter that Dwight. I would honestly rather Dwight shoot from anywhere on the court than Rondo. Plus we would need to take the ball out of Harden's hands for him to be affective.
I doubt Boston would want Bev. They want minutes for Smart. Could you imagine having Rondo and Bev as our PGs!? So much attitude!
Good defender, great passer, horrible shooter, did miss anything? Basically we would be exchanging shooting for ball handling (taking it out of Harden's hands) and passing. I for one dont think he is a great fit for our team.
I also worry about what a Rondo-Harden-Howard scenario would look like. I'm about 99.9% sure that Howard and Rondo would be like Howard and Kobe 2.0. Team chemistry would be destroyed. I think 50/50 chance he co-exists with Harden.
It's never a bad thing to have more playmakers! While it might slightly hurt his PPG, it will give everyone, including harden, it will give everyone better looks.
