Technically yes, he'd still be a lame duck president even if his party had held on to some power or even gained power, but that would have been better than being essentially a powerless lame duck. No matter what the spin, the American people voted to ensure the president had as little power as possible on his way out. He's essentially a super lame duck.

I'm ready to make a bet with you. If a Dem wins the presidency again in 2016 you are out of here. If a Republican I leave.

That's a bet from ignorance, neither of us even know who is running.

This is what we heard after 2010 too. And then when the voters had an actual opportunity to throw out Obama, turns out they didn't want to. Midterms are terrible proxies for people's actual views on a President. Different electorates, different policies, different candidates, on and on.

You make it sound like the Executive branch was lost.

There is this thing called Presidential veto. American people failed if they wanted the president to have as little power as possible.

Well at this point it doesn't really matter what the American people think about Obama, he can't run anymore and he has next to no political capital or power.

Yet at the same time the right constantly screams how he's an usurper who uses executive orders to bypass democracy and rule as he wishes. You guys hate Obama so much that you can't even keep your story straight.

He has next to no power, sure he can veto everything that comes across his desk, and shut down the government in doing so, but that would really be screwing his party over. After whining about "the party of no" for years it would make for some pretty funny ads if the Democrats went that route once they no longer had power. Anyway, saying "as little power as possible" doesn't mean "no power" just in case you were confused.

It's funny to me how often inflammatory words like "hate" are thrown out when talking about simple political disagreement. Whatever makes you feel better I guess.

He has plenty of power - otherwise, people on the right wouldn't be b****ing. He changed immigration policy a few weeks ago. He had the power to change decades of Cuba policy today.

And with a stroke of a pen all of that will be wiped out by the next president (or before) because executive orders don't really hold all that much weight. Anyway, stay in denial if you like.

Don't think there is much chance that President Clinton will do that...

Good move. This should have been done a long time ago.

Heh, keep dreaming. She won't even get her party's nomination.....again.

Anyway, back to reality, it's pretty obvious why the president is doing the things he has been doing lately, he's almost done with his term in office and has essentially nothing positive to show for it by way of legislation or the "change" he was promising. He's not willing to even consider working with the party in control of congress so he has to seek out everything he can do by himself that could potentially count as a positive addition to his legacy. I'm not a big fan of the Cuba embargo still being a thing, so I support his move in that direction. Normalizing relations with Cuba is a good idea and IMO is one of the few positive things he's done as president.

No I'm saying they voted for Obama, and didn't vote against him.

    They voted against you.

    NEWS FLASH!

    The Cold War is Over.

The resistance to bringing Cuba into a 'normal' relations is hilarious. Russia couldn't afford a Western Hemisphere proxy if they wanted to. And they aren't spreading Marxist revolution anywhere, they're not even Marxist. Think Venezuela is going to keep propping up the Castro family with $60 oil? They can't afford to keep their own people in gasoline.

The timing is perfect. It's another FU to Pootie. And adds to the resume' of a pretty great Pope.

The people of Cuba today don't remember Bautista, probably don't care much about politics at all. Welcome to our new neighbors.
